Do I have everything?

I am getting my new snake today and want to make sure that I have everything before I bring him home.

There are the things that I have:
20 gallon long tank
Two hide-a-ways
fake tree branch for climbing
aspen bedding
under tank heater
water dish
frozen mice
thermometer and hygrometer

Anything that I am missing? Also how many days should I leave him be when I bring him home, I have heard two days, four days, a week... what is correct? If he is due to eat today, do I feed him or wait a couple of days for him to feel more comfortable?

I am so excited to bring him home, I just can not wait. :bird:

thanks for you help

You seem to have everything... is the therometer and hygrometer a digital kind?
You should wait a couple of days, about 4 to a week. Even if he is due to eat, don't feed him, let him get settled in.

Thermostat or rheostat for UTH. I'd recommend a thermostat. Zoomed 500R is cheap. Big Apple Herp sells one that is a little more expensive but nicer.

Maybe some fake vines. The kind that suction to the sides make the viv more closed-in, and the six foot long wire one can be scrunched into a cozy hiding spot that you can just pick up to remove.

Make sure there are no holes in your fake branch the snake can get into. If so, seal with aquarium silicone. Look for the thread "Lost and Found Jasper" to see a branch notorious for losing hatchlings in.

I personally wouldn't handle the snake for seven days, then I would feed it a smaller meal than what it had previously been fed, then not handle for 48-72 hours, THEN handle gently, gradually increasig the time. Establishing a stress-free feeding snake is way more important than getting to know it in the first few weeks.

I agree with everything posted above...all you need now is a thermostat/rheostat and a thermometer with a probe so you can put it over the glass where the UTH is..the stick on thermometers are never accurate..Congrats on getting a new snake and can't wait to see pics when ya get him :0)

is your tank one of the ones that comes with a sliding and locking screen or did you need to buy one? If you bought a screen in addition to your tank, I suggest you get 4 of the tank screen clips they sell pretty cheaply at the store and maybe find a pretty rock or statue to weight the screen down too.

Looks like I got beat. So to reiterate what was said above. You will need a rheostat or thermostat to adjust the UTH to prevent it from getting up to 150 like mine does when I dont have it controlled. (thought the thermometer was broken when I read that lol) Other then that it sounds like you have everything. Just make sure you have a thermometer with a probe so you can check the temps on the warm side. Place the probe on the glass or bottom of the viv where the UTH is.
