Do you think snakes think this

I was just wandering if a snake saw a human for the first time do you think we would look weird to them. It is kinda like when some people see a snake for the first time and think it was weird looking. If you have an opinion on this please say what you would think not others

Actually, yes, I think humans must be frighteningly strange to a snake seeing one of us for the first time. After all, what is it they say about when you come across a snake? "Don't worry - the snake is more scared of you than you are of it!"

I can't imagine there's much that is natural or normal about a human from a snake's perspective.. from our sounds, smells, appearance, and that we just don't naturally fit into their realm of existence.

I don't think that snakes think.

I would imagine though, that to them, we are a predator which would cause their fight or flight to kick in. They'd either slither away quickly, freeze and hope they are not spotted, or defend themselves if they were found.

I like to think that animals "think" to some degree...not like we as humans think (unless they were perhaps primates of some sort) but think things like "i'm hungry, thirsty, scared and need to find safety" etc. I can tell when my dogs are thinking something...perhaps reptiles think in a more primal sense...I do agree with Alicat in that we would set off their flight or fight...humans can be pretty scary!

I feel humans are weird looking and scary, and I've seen them many times. I, like snakes, try to avoid them whenever possible.

Haha I agree with VampMN, people can be terrifying!

Most snakes I've run into have just frozen and stared at me. Wild mice do that too, so perhaps they need to figure out why this organic thing smells so unnatural? I can only imagine how strange our chemical deodorants/perfumes/soaps smell to them.

I think when you first reach into handle a hatchling they're like ????????????DFKFGDI5498034IREFGILJLKY6LKASKFGKLSDAKLDS????????????FDGOKTRI903W9IEFOI4359064IRWEKRKSA????????????? error error does not compute

I've never herped in the great outdoors so I can't attest for wild snakes. But 99.999% of the time, the snake is more scared than you are.

Not talking about animals as a whole, just snakes. lol. They don't have much more brain then what is required for vegetative functions, and "eat, sleep, breed". :p

Until you've picked them up and then they're like "Okay, just act cool just act cool oooh whats this? ooooh whats this? whats under her-- BAIL BAIL BAIL TOO MUCH!"

I've handled Cleo for the first time recently (had her over a week now) and she ran (hehe, ran) away from me when I tried to pick up her but once she was up she seemed pretty chilled. Moving pretty slowly around my hands and arms exploring for about a minute and a half, before all of a sudden she'd had enough and practically tried to jump back into her viv. I let her go, hehe it was her away of telling me she'd had enough.

Apparently it takes them for a while to process the whole thing. Usually when I open the viv, it's first running away a bit, then cautiously approaching and exploring. So yeah, I would guess corns are naturally flighty first, curious second.

I'm pretty sure my snow, Nessie, thinks I'm an arse and thinks I should stay the heck away from her at all times. If she had a "middle scale" to flip at me every time she spotted me she wouldn't think twice to do so, even if hidden away in her hide.
