Do your cornsnakes get flighty after handling for a while?

I'm trying to handle my new 6 month old corn every night apart from after feeding.

He has a couple of behaviours that are quite amusing...the first is he constantly tries to climb up my forearm, but he isn't very good at it and will usually fall off!. Since I'm sitting down when I handle him this isn't far, just into my lap. Sometimes the front of his body falls and he is left clinging on by his tail to my fingers, with the rest of him swinging in mid-air :)

The other is that he will wrap himself around my fingers and then dangle from my hand...gradually extending himself downwards...he can get to about 80% of his body dangling in the air. Sometimes he backs up, but sometimes he seems to think "right, I'm going to make a jump for it now!" and starts to slither the other 20% off...but I always put the other hand under him to catch him.

In any case, I find that after about half an hour he gets really flighty, moving around much more quickly, and trying to head off (anywhere....) So I put him back in his tank....one time I let him get onto the floor and he was off like a rocket to hide under the sofa, I've never seen him move so fast!

Nice to see another Brit on the Forum.

My corn, Ozzy, is the same. After handling he'll cruise round his viv for an hour or so. I put it down to the fact that they get nice and warmed up with the heat from your hands and from the exercise.
As I understand it, it's normal for a young snake to want to go up. May be a safety thing in the wild to get off the ground? I'm only theorising so don't quote me!

Yes, I noticed that last night, when he seemed really active. His body was really warm! After I put him back in the viv he went tunnelling all over the place in the Aspen.

I saw him dunk his head in his water dish for about 15 seconds and have a look around. It's the first time I have ever seen him do this. When he came back up he gave a huge yawn!

He was also sitting on top of the aspen this morning, which again is a first-timer. Normally he just hides during the day and only comes out after I have turned the viv light off. I think he is looking for food, I will be feeding him tomorrow, and will try and get a few pics.

I don't think he's really yawning. Probably resetting his jaw. Is he due for a shed? Mine did that the night before she shed her skin.
