If miracle grow is safe for use in vivs? I looked but couldn't find anything online. While I know this is silly to say, Blaine has a favorite plant but it's under his heat lamp. Even though the lamp is only on during the day (he has an UTH for night time) I don't want the plant to get fried and keep buying a new one. And miracle grow is really good for that sort of thing, but obviously I can't use it unless I know for sure it's safe for him.

The primary ingredients in the Miracle-Gro powder are as follows:

• 5.8% Ammoniacal Nitrogen
• 9.2% Urea Nitrogen
• 30% Available Phosphate
• 15% Soluble Potash
• 0.02% Boron
• 0.07% Copper
• 0.15% Iron
• 0.05% Manganese
• 0.005% Molybdenum
• 0.06% Zinc

Derived from: Ureaform, Ammonium Phosphate, Urea Phosphate, Potassium Chloride, Boric Acid, Copper Sulfate, Iron EDTA, Manganese EDTA, Sodium Molybdate, and Zinc Sulfate.

Now I have no idea what half of those ingredients are, but for the sake of having a live plant in a vivarium, which to be honest is more for the benefit of the owner than the snake, I wouldn't take the risk personally.

Maybe if you really want to pursue it further you could contact the makers of miracle grow and ask them if they believe any of the ingredients could be harmful.

Hope this helps

I don't think miracle gro has much to do with whether or not your plant gets fried. It's mainly a fertilizer to help "feed" it. If it's under lights it will lose moisture more quickly, so it's important to stay on top of that and keep the soil slightly moist.

If you want to fertilize it, what I do with mine is make sure they are planted in good rich potting soil, and then every once in a while I'll water them with boiled egg water. Basically you save water that you boil eggs in, let it cool, and give it to the plants. Boiling leaches some of the minerals and nutrients from the egg, and it's safe for the plant/animals living on the plant. So far so good!

Thank you! I'll try that out.

Also- I know it feeds the plants they make a special one desinged just for leaves that dry out (it's prolly just another way to sell plant food, but I'd try it anyway). But I'm going to keep the miracle grow away from the viv
