how bad is the smell that goes with raising feeder mice? compare it to a hamster maybe? or compare it to a bearded dragon?

As long as you keep them cleaned out, they don't smell too bad, IMO. You can supposedly put vanilla extract in their water bottles to reduce the odour, but I've never tried it

I have raised both and hamsters smell worse, but I don't really think hamsters ormice smell that bad. I do clean them out regularly.

Yes, they smell bad. Male mouse urine has a distinct smell. You can minimize it with weekly cleaning and a good pelletted bedding and keep the male count down.

yeah i bred gerbiles and i had mice. with gerbiles i had 110+ att once just tons. takes ALOT of time alot of food, bedding, time, money! to bad at the time i rised them for pets/feeders. and i didnt have snakes when i had them. there really messie! you atlest have to clean out there tanks once a week.

We tried them for a month several females(4) and one male ..Personally I couldnt stand the smell. But we have asthma in the family and it really made that worse and I cleaned the bedding 3x a week..I just think it goes on what you can stand:)

I'm sensitive to smells..even my kids pet rats that are so much less smelly are still to smelly for me basically..LOL Far worse then a beardie and not sure on the gerbil;)

the males do have a strong smell to them but if cleaned a couple times a week it is controlable.... just need to make sure to actually Wash the tanks and not just clean out the bedding and dump new in... washing helps to control the smell alot. Also if you provide a wheel or something like that, that also needs to be washed weekly :) as for compareing... well, after a few days I can tell my mice need to be cleaned where as if my beardie poos... I Know that Right away!! dragon poo is like a slap in the face smell LOL mice tend to smell strong but after a few days after cleaning day. :)

yes if you dont cean them they will stink like hell but if you do they smell normal its a good idea if you are raising mice then its free food :realhot:
