Donut's third shedding!

Hi Everyone,

I have had my little Amel Donut (female) for about three weeks. The man that I bought her from said that she had shed twice already. That would mean that today she shed for the third time! Anyway, I just had one little question, the shed skin (13.5 inches) came off whole and perfect, but about 3/4 of the way down the skin, there is a tiny bit of blood on the inside. Is this normal?

Thanks abunch!
Laurie

Are you sure its not poop? Most of mine manage to poop on their perfect sheds *sigh*, then the more scraggy sheds are poop free. Am sure they do it to make me crazy!

I've read that some snakes issue a little bit of blood from their cloaca when shedding. I've never experienced it with any of mine, but am told it is perfectly normal. If the snake doesn't keep bleeding, I woudln't worry about it.

No, not poo

I am very sure that it is blood and not poo, just like three tiny drops. The skin was so pretty, i had to put it in a labeled plastic baggie all though i am sure that when it dries out it will disintegrate.
I checked her over quite thoroughly and found no open wounds or spots of any kind and the blood did seem to be rather close to where her vent area would be, so I will not worry too much about it. Now for my next question.

Can anyone tell me why I am so terribly proud that the freaking snake shed? I feel like i should get her a gift, or a card or something....

You'll feel the same way when your baby gets his first haircut, or loses his first tooth. It's just one of those mom things.

I keep mine in a large cigar box....

Well if you tuck it under the hide, the Shed Fairy..... awww, never mind....

Lol, ok, well, i didnt get her a card, but i did give her an extra pinky and she ate it and still acted hungry. I am wondering if she doesnt need to be eating more all the time. Can anyone tell me if it is normal for a 13 inch snake to eat two pinky's per feeding every 3-4 days? I tried giving Church, (my snow) another pinky and he ate the heck out of it. Please advise. Thanks!!!!

Laurie

I'm pretty sure what your seeing is the tips of her scent glands. They are bright red when they shed. I thought that it was blood too when my first corn shed. I wouldn't worry about it as long as there's not a lot.

It sounds to me like your little girl and my little boy are almost the same age. Toby shed for the third time two days ago. He is longer than your little girl, almost 14 inches, but he was the longest of his clutch. Toby will be 3 months old on September 18, and is eating 2 pinkies every 4 to 5 days. He is digesting well, so I haven't worried about it. I thought he would need that much food since he is growing so fast.
If anyone out there with more expirience has any other advice, I would be happy to hear it as well. Toby is my first corn.
