Dots on eyes????

Hey guys!

Just wanted your opinion on what this. She is a 22 month old classic corn that I got for free, the owner of the shop wanted to put her down because no one would buy her because of her eyes. Ive had her for just over a year and she is a perfectly healthy corn. Eats like a machine, poops like one too and is most probably the friendliest corn I have ever come across (except for when she eats)! :dgrin:

It can't be retained eye-caps because I have checked each and every shed that she has had with me and with all of them the eye-caps came off. Her other eye is the same, albeit much lighter. She was close to a shed in the pic, so it looks grey, but the outsides of her eyes are jet black with the standard brown rim whilst only the inside (cornea) has the white dots.

So what do you guys think?

I thought someone's snake, here, had an eye infection that looked like that. I'm thinking a snake up in Canada? Anyone remember? Or was it Meg and the False Water Cobra that died after anaesthesia...

Maybe she is blind. Can you tell by her actions if she sees you or not? Our Willie has one eye that is very tiny, almost non-existant and we think he is blind in that one. He jumps when we touch her from that side, but he is still our Willie!!!

She definately sees movement, when she is hungry she follows me around in her viv as I move around the room. But she can't see detail, I literally have to put her food right in front of her before she comes aware of its location.

Could it be infection? It hasn't grown or gotten worse in the 15 odd months that I have had her and she really is still as healthy as ever. And not in discomfort, she has never tried to bite me, that is why I think it doesn't bother her.

Cataracts? Sorry, I only have limited experience with my Jonesy. His are less well-defined, more diffuse and in both eyes though. You might just be able to make it out in my avatar pic?

If it was one eye I'd say get her checked for a tumour, but both eyes would be a pretty big coincidence.

As far as I can tell, Jonesy either has very impaired vision or is totally blind. He seems to work things out by vibration and heat. Makes getting him out of the viv an increasing adventure, as he always homes in on my nose in a rather speculative fashion! However, he's otherwise unaffected - eats like a champ and moves round the viv with confidence when he chooses (he's slowed down a lot since he hit his twenties).

Our Willie has one eye that is very tiny,

Mine too!!!

If this snake has had the condition for 15 months without change it is not an infection. I would say it is very likely a scare on the lens of it's eyes. Or some kind of congenital disorder. In any case the snake seems to be doing fine, I certainly would not be worried about it.

Yup, he'll be 22 this summer. I've had him since he was 3.

That is incredible! :dancer: What size is he? Does he look old? Haha, I'm hijacking my own thread, but it really is amazing! 22...

Where can i find pics of the gramps?

Diamondlil has a snake that had a similar condition, but more towards the forward part of the eyes. It was okay after the next shed.
I was thinking that maybe some fluid got under the spectacle and separated it from the eye a little?

What size is he?
About five feet I think. No bigger than average, certainly.

Does he look old?
I don't think so but he certainly acts old - the last couple of years, I'd liken him to an elderly dog. He's very set in his ways and doesn't like any changes (although he was always a bit like this). He takes days to settle after I do a full clean-down of his tank. He's a picky feeder these days and can suddenly decide that he needs to be tease-fed for months at a time.

He isn't very active any more, preferring to stay under his favourite hide and will usually only venture out if he thinks there's a chance of dinner. Because of his eyesight problems, he thinks anything warm that moves near him is worth investigating as a food item, so I now get him out of the viv with gloves! He doesn't much like being handled although he'll tolerate it, so I keep it to a minimum. Mind you, he always was a bit like that anyway.

Having said all that, he still goes nuts in the Spring and goes through the full mating frenzy and fasting, so there's life in the old guy yet!

Where can i find pics of the gramps?
Actually, apart from my avatar pic, I don't really have any decent shots of him. Maybe it's about time we had a photo op.
