Double Clutch?!?!

Well, as some of you may know my female Amel Het Butter layed 13 good eggs this year. She also had a egg stuck in her but the vet was able to get it out. She lost a lot of weight and is starting to regain it back now. Today when I had her out I thought I felt more eggs in her. After about 10 minutes of, "I feel them...wait it is my imagination" thing, I am pretty sure they are there. I quickly took out the scale and she is only 275 grams.

Her other eggs were layed on April 15th and hatched about 2 weeks ago. She shed and ate last week so I didn't expect anything. I took some pictures of her today on the scale because thats when I noticed she did sort of look a little fat...which is hard to do when you are only 275 grams. If she is double clutching I am not sure if she will make it. As I said she had trouble with her first clutch and now she is only 275 grams.

Hopefully she isn't but what if she is? I will attach picks in an hour or so.

Thanks...

Well if she is in fact double clutching.....all you can really do is keep her as low-stress as possible and try to keep her eating and hence keep her wieght up.

There is, of course, also the possibility that she is just ovulating (hence the lumps) and nothing will ever come of it.

Good luck!

my female is doing the same thing!
she laid 18 eggs about 2month ago and now she is making more eggs!
hopefully she will survive her second clutch..
just need to feed her more mice

Well, yesterday I put in the lay box and that night I found one bad egg in there. I hoped that she would lay the rest and I saw that she was this morning. About an hour ago when I got home she had layed 9 more eggs. Most look bad but I put them all in the incubator. I think that maybe 2 have a chance and I will take the others out when they start to mold in case some do survive.

I am pretty sure she doesn't have any more in her and I can't see any bumps. So overall I am very happy! I am so glad that she is not eggbound or have one egg stuck like last time. I am going to feed her tonight and try to work her back up to over 300 grams!!!!!

Thanks...

eek, that must have been stressful. My female may be doing the same thing, but she gained weight like crazy and is up at 530 grams or so, so i don't need to worry.

Glad she seems to be doing okay!

Ay yi yi, see, it's stuff like this that make me feel relieved about being an adopter & not a breeder...! :) Good going on being an observant parent...:)
