Drumming and keeping snakes

mikeyg

Drummer/Snake lover
I'm a drummer, i do it as often as i possibly can and i play pretty loud. Will my drumming effect the snake in any way? My snake it upstairs and my kit is in the basement.

How loud is loud? He might be able to feel it a bit, but I don't THINK it would bug him all that much. (Snakes have no external ears. They "hear" using their bottom jaw which sends messages to an inner ear which translates to their brain as what they "hear")

If you can hear drumming from the basement fairly well when you are next to his tank, then he can "hear" it too (or FEEL it, rather). If it's loud enough that you have to raise your voice to talk over it then it might be bothersome, but if you can just barely hear it then he'll be just fine. They are used to random vibrations (i.e. your footsteps, the vacuum, rearranging furniture). Drumming should just become one of those things they ignore.

The first time I got my guitar I was playing quietly in my room (which was also my snake room at the time) and I looked over and everyone was "at attention". They were all peeping out and staring in my direction, frozen there. Then after a few days of playing more consistantly, they just ignored it completely.

Haha that must have been funny to see.
I've actually never heard the drums from upstairs. I'm usually the one playing. But from what i'm told, it's not too loud. Makes my life easier, one less thing to worry about. All i have to worry about now is the temp of the tank, but i'll leave that for another day.
