My new cornsnake is in the beginning stages of a shed. I think. Yesterday the snake appeared very dull color which is a sign of shed but the eyes are clear. when do they go into "blue"? when should i expect the snake to shed? when should i feed? it last ate on the 9th then on the 14 but regurgitated but im not sure if it will eat now. How long until i can begin handling it again?

thanks for all the help and sorry about all the ?'s this is my first snake.

It will take a week to ten days for your snake to go through the shed cycle, depending upon the humidity level in the vivarium. If it takes much longer, introduce a shed box, consisting of a tupperware-type container filled with damp paper towels.

As for handling, I handle mine in the blue all the time. The only real concern is being careful to recognize that when snakes are in blue, they cannot see, and when they cannot see well, some of them are more snappy than at other times.

You can feed them in shed too, but since your snake just regurged, you probably need to wait until after the shed to allow the stomach juices to replenish. Some (Carol and a few others, I believe) have reported seing an increase in regurges from feeding while in shed. I, myself, have not noticed such, but it just may be that I didn't connect the two events in my mind.

Good luck with your snake! :D

my corns usualy refuse food altogether when opauqe. unless they are clear just before sheeding and even then sometimes.I would just wiat till it has sheed. asuming your getting food at the petstore ,it will probably save you time and money.
