Dutch elm in a cage

Rainey

Why can't I have more?
hey all!

Just a quick question, I have a couple small pieces of dutch elm in my corns cage. I boiled them for 10 mins each and then put them in my oven for 10 mins at 350F. Do any of you know if this wood is bad for corns? It has a bit of an aroma but not much, do you know if I should coat it in something or if it's fine like it is?

Thanks!

Sounds good but you may want to try soaking it in bleach over night and then rinsing it really really really well (till you can't smell the bleach anymore). This kills germs and parasites pretty effectively.

I wouldn't soak it in pure bleach...

I usually go with 9 parts water to a 1 part bleach solution... leave 'em to soak for an hour or so (or more depending on the type & size of wood)...

Then, leave it to soak in just regular plain water for about 24 hours.... Then, if it's real hot outside, just leave it out there to dry out (or stick it under a coupla Active UVHeat bulbs if it ain't warm out, heh).
