Eco Earth VS Aspen Substrate?

I've been considering swapping from aspen snake bedding to Eco Earth, as I've got a fairly light morph corn snake and it would be easier to see him against darker substrate. I've never even touched Eco Earth, however, and I was wondering if anyone had anything to say about it?

I do feed my corn outside his viv, so ingestion and becoming impacted shouldn't be too much of a threat.

Thanks in advance!

I have use eco earth and find it to be a good safe substrate. I have switched to aspen only because its always in stock and its cheaper. Its also easier to see Poo on, aspen however is dusty. I suggest putting it a large tub and mixing it to settle the dust to the bottom then use it.

Well if you buy the brick form and are not against doing a little work than eco earth is quite cheap. I buy the three pack of bricks. One brick will fill a 20 gallon long easily (and depending on how thick maybe with some leftover.) I believe petsmart sells them for around $11-$12 (3 pack) but you can get them much cheaper at an expo (I got mine for $7 for a three pack).

Hope that helps ^^

I used the Eco Earth for about a year. It was awesome with holding humidity when the time came for my snakes shed. Plus when I took it out of the bag it had a fresh dirt smell that I liked. The only thing that I didn't like, and the reason why I switched to aspen, was because the dirt would get under their scales and sometimes not come out until they shed.

FYI Flukers aspen comes in different colors besides the normal/tan color. I've purchased black, red, and green. I know they carry blue as well.

I didn't know about the different colored aspen shavings! I really enjoy how aspen smells so maybe I'll invest in some in either black or red--those should look good against my butter's lighter scales. Thank you!

Eco earth at my local stores is 13-15 dollars for a brick Aspen is 3 dollars and I gut enough to last a year changing it out every couple months it does smell better then dirt Imo and does, hold humidity very well but I use a hug d shed box so it's no big deal

Ive been useing hemcore for a while (hourse bedding) looks great and easy to clean and alot cheaper than aspen i got a 25 kilo bail for £12

I use coco soft which is pretty similair to eco soft. I am thinking of trying it next to see if there is any differences. I have a lighter corn to so I totally understand wanting a darker substrate so it shows off their colors better. I don't think you could get hemcore in the US dragon it seems to be a UK thing since our issue with marijuana has severely hindered the hemp industry in the states. I'm not even sure if it is something that would be confiscated if it was internationally shipped or not in that case.
