Eggs!

So....I'm in the process of getting my first ever clutch. This girl is a 2002, so this is her first clutch. I checked on her at noon and there were no eggs yet, she wasn't even in the box as a mattter of fact... now there's 11, with more on the way. That's quite a few considering we could only feel 8, and she's note a huge snake. 1 or 2 are obvious slugs, but that's to be expected.

Excuse the photo quality, the cell was all I had on hand...

Yep, het opals... I just went and took them from her. Boy was that challenging. I didn't expect them to be so soft. Ahyhow, 14 total. one was definitely infertile...brown and shaped like a diamond, and 2 were fairly cylindrical, but not bad for sure.

I need to get some food in her, she looks like a wrinkled bag... I'm glad her clutch came quick though

Well done mike....so insanely jealous of you!! I have my first clutch due to drop in a week or so and it's killing me!!!

I know how you feel. I'm in the same boat right now. All sorts of pictures of these beautiful hatchlings, and I'm stuck waiting for my female to shed and lay her eggs. If she would only hurry up......

im in the same bind waiting for my eggs. she mated for the 4th and last time on march 24 and i've felt the eggs in her. she has sphgnum in her laying box, is it good moss for incubation as well?

Some say that it dries ut more easily, but many people choose to use it as incubation medium, myself included.

can you tell me how you know an egg is fertile she has layed 28 some are yellow and some are white

Yellow eggs are usually slugs while nice white eggs are healthy ones.

Mike, here's what Don emailed me back with:

He's also not very stable with the temps for incubating, he said they're ranging from 82-90 degrees---but anything I've ever read says that stability is more important than the actual temperature, so I dont know.

"Agreed. Those eggs are going to die if they're spiking to 90 even a few times. He could get up to 90 gradually and for days at a time, but spikes are killers. Out of season hatching is tough for most. For 15 yeas, I hatched all my eggs in the hall closet of my home. Just put the jars on the top shelf and kept the door closed, but the magic of that is the time of year. That was always in the summer when it was warm outside. Air conditioning never hit the eggs cuz there were no AC vents in that closet. This time of year, I don't think I could have pulled that off if I were still living in Kansas. It's too cool this time of year. If he's using an incubator, he's using the wrong brand, huh?"
