A silly question....

Can someone explain the use of decimal points when you are describing the number of snakes/pets you have. call me crazy, it just seems odd to have 3 tenths of something alive.

Example:
1.0 bloodred
1.3 whatever

just curious
 
Thank you for the info, it makes tremendous sense. I guess that means i have:

0.1 bloodred
1.1 children.... oh and of course
0.1 wife
