Is there any way to get a musky snake to stop?

There's a really sweet california king at work. He's calm, doesn't mind being handled, good eater, etc. The only problem is that EVERY time i get him out, he musks. Sometimes it's almost right away, sometimes it's after he's been out a few minutes. Once it was projectile and hit a kid standing next to the handler.

It doesn't seem to be stress-induced or in reaction to anything, he just loves to put his mark on everything. I'm not a fan, however, of eau de Lampropeltis.

Anything I can do?

Hey sarae,

How old is the Cali. King because I have never had an adult Cali. King musk me. Only the ones younger than 1 to 1 1/2 years old musk me.

I do not know of anyway to stop a snake from musking.

Love the Fatman

He's been in the store since April and was a youngin' then. So it's probably something he'll grow out of?

I just rehomed my MBK because he wouldn't stop, no matter how often we held him or for how long. Neither one of us was having much fun, so I gave him to someone who wanted a display animal.

None of my other kingsnakes musk, though, including my little CaliKing baby. Instead, he tail rattles for all he's worth :).
