I am sure this has been discussed here many times, but for some reason I couldn't find any threads that were on-point...

I had to leave town for a family emergency. In all of the rushing around, I forgot to close the lid of my little guy's tank before I left. I was gone from Saturday morning 'til just about an hour ago, and when I walked over to his tank, he was gone (of course.) What kind of tricks do you all use to coax them out of hiding? Is it possible that he got out of my room, went down the stairs, and out the front door?

Any help would be greatly appreciated... we have two dogs in the house, and roomies who are scared of snakes, and I don't want any of them to encounter him before I do.

Yes it is probable and likely he made it out of your room. They tend to follow the walls. Set out a heating pad and i know there is a bottle trap you can do with a mouse to lure him (you will have to search on here for this). Also pay attention to the dogs. If you trust the dog enough and are confident you can control him then you could bring the dog in your room and watch him closely. Dogs and cats can find them a lot better than us. Also look in any little hiding spot you can think of.. probably somewhere warm. Check in closets too. I would try the word "escape" or something like that in the search... there have been many threads. Best of luck. Hope you find him safe and sound.

And most important...never give up!!

9 years ago my 6 month old hatchling "Keeper" escaped. I tore the room apart and she was gone. Then I searched the house....nothing.

I looked for about 2 weeks, and came to the conclusion that she was gone forever.

2 and a half months later, I heard my husband in the basement yelling for me. Somehow my girl had gotten out of the room, went down the hall, slid under the basement door, went all the way down the stairs, and found her way into the nail slots (where hubby keeps nails according to size) on his workbench!! He went to reach for a nail and there she was!

I still have her :) She was little more than a hatchling then. She'll be 10 this year.

Thank you! And still no luck...

Thank you both for your help. I still haven't found him yet, and I am getting very sad and worried. After class, I am going to set up a few bottle traps and see if that yields any results. I still need to search the roomies' rooms. Surprised the dogs haven't found him yet. :(

don't give up hope hun....i'm sure lil avery will show up...i'd search the house everyday....

oh, you can also try laying flour down along the walls and doorways at night to see if it is still moving around the house...
