Everthing I Need

Hi all can u guys please tell me everthing i need to house and care for my corn so i can draw up a price list thanks

I would suggest starting with the FAQ in this section (Husbandry). If you have access to Kathy Love's manual, she also covers much more than just basic husbandry.

If you have specific questions after looking through the FAQ, you may find folks more apt to respond to you.

Happy reading! :)

30 gallon tank... 79 dollars.
Water dish... 4 dollars
UTH... 20 dollars
Putting a little effort into doing your own research... priceless.

thats what iam doing.....duh
No it's not. Duh. You're asking people who've already done their research to spoon-feed you their findings. If you had listed the items that you knew you needed from reading a book, or the dozens of published caresheets, or the husbandry FAQ from this site, and then asked if you were missing anything, it would have been a whole lot cooler. But you didn't. That was the kind of effort I was referencing.

isent that what this site is for???????? help others?????!!!!!
Nope. There is no requirement here that members do your basic research for you. I think it's here for two major reasons:

1) To serve as a repository of information on corn snakes. 99% of the questions a new keeper might have are already answered in existing threads or in the FAQs. All it takes a smidgeon of effort to use the 'search' functions here.

2) To server as a forum for discussion of corn snakes by dedicated keepers.

iam very sorry for asking for advice on aquiring a corn snake and its needs. i wont bother asking questions again from this site. and for youre information i didnt ask for prices so put youre price gun away!!!! and..... i thought the internet sorta replaced the need for books. thank you to all the other members on this site who have took the time to help and advise me on buying and keeping a heathly corn snake.......much appreciated. i will find another source of help where i dont get this sort of attitude.

Or you could wait here until a friendlier member comes along and gives you your answers. There are a lot of different types of people here. Don't judge them all by what you think of me.

I don't agree that the internet replaced books, but it did provide a medium from which TONS of data can be easily accessed. If you take me up on my suggestion, and use the 'search' functions and FAQs on this site, I think you'll find that you get your answers much more quickly than waiting around for replies in threads. Sometimes Google searches referencing this site work great too. Give it a shot, and try not to be so sensitive. It's just a discussion board.

In the red corner... a new member to the forums with no previous history... ad hirons

And in the blue corner... a seasoned vet with a record of 32-5 (all 5 of his losses coming from CMatt)

ANNOUNCER: I'm gonna take Munson in this fight. He's got that attitude we've been looking for. I just don't see ad hirons lasting past a couple rounds (aka: a couple posts)

Unfortunately, this is the exact opposite of how I'd like this discussion to be perceived, especially by ad_hirons. My first post was a joke, and my last one was meant to be genuinely helpful. The ones in between were the result of my "sass from a kid", "the purpose of this forum is...", and "typing one broad question and sitting back = research" buttons being pushed. :grin01:

look roy i came on here as a NEWBIE intersted in buying a snake that i want the best for i only asked a question so what is the need for all this ???????

1. Enclosure (appropriately sized vivarium, converted aquarium, plastic tub...)
2. Water Bowl (large enough for snake to fit into)
3. Undertank Heater (appropriate size for enclosure; acheive target temp range in enclosure before introducing the snake; avoid lamps for heating)
4. Substrate (shredded aspen, newspaper, paper towels...)
5. Feeding Tub (appropriately sized plastic tub for snake feeding)
6. Anti-Escape Devices (secure screen top and tank clips for converted aquarium; binder clips to secure plastic tub lid)
7. Prey Items (frozen prey items of appropriate size)

I think that's a good start. :)

thanks roy i am getting my viv straight away which is 3ft is this ok my snake will oly be a baby so he comes in small plastic tub i have been told i can place small tub in big viv is this right ??? thanks :)

A 3 foot long viv, at least a foot wide and deep would be fine for a corn's entire life. I wouldn't do the tub-in-viv thing. Set up the uth on one side of the tank, so that the warm side stays in the low 80*s (Fahrenheit, of course!), and the cool side is in the mid 70*s. The key to making a hatchling feel safe in a large enclosure is to have many hides distributed between the warm and cool sides. I can't over-emphasize the importance of making sure that the enclosure is absolutely escape proof. Don't count on weights alone to hold down a cover. Make sure lids, doors, etc. are clipped and/or fastened.

I understand. But its just like my old man told me... well he never told me it, but I could imagine. Anyway, I think it was something like "don't let them get the best of you." This site does have plenty to offer. Just keep searching. Munson is a seasoned vet... you know how vets act... always bitter. And before you know it, I'm gonna be bitter.

Old age in general can also generate bitterness. The world's given me sixteen more years of butt-whooping than it has you youngsters. :grin01:

I wouldnt recomend putting your baby corn in a viv that big right away though. They can get lost. As Roy said, they need to feel safe and secure. I originally bought a 10gal tank for my hatchling and when I thought she was big enough, I put her in her 50 gal tank. Although many people say that a 30 gal tank is plenty big for an adault corn, but I got the 50 for the same privce. If you dont want to shell out for 2 tanks, use a plastic shoe box that you can find almost anywhere until yours is big enough. I sure if you search shoe box or hatchling racks you will see what I am talking about. And welcome to the forum.
