EVIE'S LIFE...

OkeeteeMom

Lovin' My Snakes!
I got Evie on October 17, 2010 and joined this FABULOUS group on the 18th. I really want to thank every single person here that has helped me to learn...my deepest gratitude!

Since she's not a baby but more likely 5-7 years young, I don't know if I'd consider this a progression thread, but just snapshots into the life of Evie. Hopefully you'll enjoy.

After today's feeding...a good mouth stretch and a tongue flicking 'smile':

that yawn shot is a nice proof for people that a cornsnake bite won't hurt ^^
Nice pictures and nice snake! First time I stumble upon pictures of one of your snakes.

Thanks All!

I have a couple more albums of my 2 new babies on my profile. I'd like to get yawn shots of them, but they hide a lot!

Evie is gorgeous! Where did you get her?

We got her at a LPS. We walked in and I saw her looking up from a ground level cage...I was just drawn to her because of that. The staff told us she was a 1 year old Okeetee and was gravid. What did we know about corn snakes?...nothing! But we knew she had a home with us. I joined this group the following day and learned SO MUCH! The LPS knew, uhhhh NOTHING. What ever...she's our Evie and we love her. :)

Thanks so much for asking NWHeather.

She looks like my male Marrok, who was sold to me as a high contrast Miami, but looks nothing like my Miami's. After I got the Alabama's from Walter (from north central Alabama locale), I realized how much he looks like the Alabama's, so I don't know...
I love the colors on these guys! :)

I don't know if a yearling could get gravid, perhaps if grossly powerr fed?? Oh well, she is lovely and I totalyy dig the yawn shot lol!

NWHeather: I have a thread (http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=106110) and several people believe Evie is simply a common, normal, classic. Others believe she may have some Miami Phase. I think the LPS just used the term Okeetee to sell...which is silly because I had zero Corn Snake knowledge anyway.

CarnivorousZoo: That's the other silly thing. Even though I knew nothing about Corns and gravidness, I seriously questioned the LPS about Evie's 4 feet plus (4'5") length in relation to being only "one year old". Like I said, I came to this group and learned SO much. That plus one quasi Herp Vet visit...he said she is estimated to be 5-7 years old.

So as far as Pet Shops goes, Starsevol said it best and put my mind at ease with this post:
I have to say, October is a really strange time for a snake to be gravid. She does have bulges that "could" be eggs, but I think she is just fat.
I hate to break it to you, but for the most part, pet shops don't have a clue as to proper husbandry. But fear not! You have wandered upon THE finest corn snake site on the interwebs! :) Just forget everything "the shop" ever told you, and listen to all of these nice people, and you and Evie will be just fine :) Oh, and welcome to the forum!! :)

If you want to read how green I truly was...here it is http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=105821

I LOVE CS.com!

Speaking of gravid yearlings... I had my female Ultramel Het Lavender in a tub with another "female" my yearling female laid 8 healthy eggs that all hatched.. I just make sure I gave light meals in the many and kept a close eye on her, she is back up to par. I just was stunned and didn't even think the few hours in the tub with another " popped ( years ago ) "female" would get my girl gravid. I guess HE did. lol.. Anything is possible! And thank God I didnt lose my Espresso to it.

Thanks Amanda, and every one else!

Well, I've come to the acceptance that my sweet Evie is simply gonna' be flabby-asped for the rest of her life, lol. Who only knows what her life was like before us, but I willing to say that she saw a lot of 'action' and laid some clutches. Oh well. She's inquisitive, docile and very active! Here's one of her relaxing moments. I love her so much...she's so cute. Enjoy!

Oh...and I hope you all have a healthy/happy 2011!

Even if she was part of a Miami project or something like that, she would still be a Normal/ Classic. Miamis are line bred Classics, and could technically be classified as Normals.
Judging from the pictures in your linked thread, I think you can safely call her a Miami Phase. Even though you might not know her bloodline, the "phase" phrase saves you because well.. she looks like a Miami! She has a very pretty silvery background.

Great shots so far! This should be a very fun thread.
