I was at my local PetCo today to pick up the various food items and such for the non-humans in the house and stopped by the reptile displays as I always do while I was there.
The store recently got some new hatchlings in and there was a cute little Anery taking a swim in her bowl as I passed by. I watched for a second and then noticed that her bowl looked like it had been peppered. Oh no! I looked at the other snakes in her viv and one poor little guy was COVERED in mites.
I felt SO bad for the tiny little hatchlings. They looked miserable. I noticed that the ball python babies had mites all over them too. Terrible, terrible, terrible!
I told the store associates before I left (I made sure to do it while there were other customers around- this seems to get the employees to take one seriously and NOT blow you off). They said that they were attempting to resolve the situation, but I have my doubts. I was shocked to see mites on the animals they have on display/for sale. I hope no one buys one until the problem is taken care of!
BTW, if you're in the NW Houston area, the store I'm talking about is on Spring Cypress and SH 249. I've never seen mites on their animals before. I like the staff there in general (I've been going there since the store opened several years ago) and the store is much cleaner than some others I've been to. Truly disappointing to see those babies so afflicted.
Just needed to get that out.
