Exoterra opinions?

Sorry for another post...

I'm really having a hard time deciding on a permanent terrarium for my baby snake to grow up in. Right now she's in a critter carrier but I'm not happy with that and want to move her to something a little bigger and sturdier since my cats like messing with it. I'm afraid they're going to knock it over because it's so small and light.

I do have an empty 10 gallon tank but I'm really unsure about the screen clips. I've been reading up on them on this site and I really don't want to deal with taking them off and putting them on every time I'm in the tank. Seems like a hassle. The sliding lock doors also aren't available where I am and right now I don't have the option of ordering things online.

So I found this:
http://www.petsmart.ca/reptile/terrariums/exo-terra-advanced-reptile-terrarium-zid36-5095760/cat-36-catid-500028?_t=pfm%3Dcategory

I LOVE the look of it and the front opening doors really, really appeal to me. That's what I like best about it. It's sturdy enough. I'll just have to permanently seal the top screen because I won't be using it. Once I do that, I think I'll feel safe in that there won't be an escape.

I realize as she grows I'll have to get her a bigger one but she's very small right now and it'll work for her for a long while. I've looked into a lot of the suggested tanks here (zilla critter cages - not available where I am) and I think this is my best option.

Has anyone used these for corns with success?

The sliding doors are nice, screen clips aren't that much of a hassle. A 20 gallon long is a great size for a permanent home. Of course you could go bigger. My current set up cost about $80.00. That's for the tank, uth, water dish, the hides, bedding and screen too and clips. Those extera tanks are pricey, especially for a 20gallon sizes. Also 20 a gallon is the smallest permanent home a corn should be in.

To me that's still expensive for a tiny viv. It's also tall vs. wide which isn't ideal for corns. I have the 36"x14" Exoterra for one of my adult snakes, and in general it's a good viv but my cats broke the screen top and I had to put an extra screen over top. Don't worry about sealing the top screen, it's very difficult to remove and you're not expected to use it.

Do you have PetSmart where you are? They sell a line of All Living Things vivariums that as far as I've been able to find, are the best economic option available in stores in Canada. They are locking and suitable for snakes.

Yes. I saw that Viv with the locking sliding metal top. It's $90 though and 30" long. Would that stress out my baby? I thought they needed a smaller tank at first?

I have bigger sized tanks. I'll have an empty 30 gallon once my crabs come up from their molt and I move them all over to their new tank.

I'm just really unsure about the clips. The only ones available at my petsmart are the value kind (grreat choice or whatever) and the employee at the pet store I was talking to that owns snakes herself said they really suck :(

If those are your choices, I would go with pic 2. The one with the sliding lid. I have all of mine in either 20L or 30L and they do fine. Put lots of hides, vines, plants for ground cover and lots of hiding places.

That's what I was leaning towards, too. :) It's kind of expensive but with it being that big, and with her being a baby... She'll be in it for a good, long time lol. So it's a good investment. It looks very sturdy, too. I don't think my cats could mess with it!

I think that's a good call, Exoterras are nice but to me they're not a good investment for one or two years. I'd only buy a big one for an adult!

Question. Since I'm redoing her Viv today and setting it up for her... after I put her in her new home should I leave her a few days to settle all over again? She's due to eat tomorrow. Should I wait and treat her like I just got her?

If you're using the same hides and decorations, and if you can reuse the bedding at least from under her hides, I'd just go ahead on schedule.
