My four year old (guesstimated age as she was a rescue) laid her first full clutch on 12th May - 19 normal, fertile eggs. Last Sunday, I found her eggbound and after a lot of KY Jelly application, this morning my vet aspirated and removed another fertile egg that was about twice the size of her others. There was no way she would have been able to lay it without help.
So my questions: Was this just a fluke/bad luck, or can I expect it to happen again? Any ideas what causes this?
Whilst she seems absolutely fine now, I'm a bit nervous as I lost one of my first Corns, years ago, to complications that arose when she had the same trouble. If the problem is likely to recur in its current victim, then I'll make sure that I don't breed her again.
Thanks for any feedback.
