I'm really worried about my snake right now. This morning I got him out, and I noticed that his left eye looked different. I looked at it closer, and it seems like the skin covering his eye has been poked inwards. I think this might have happened when I fed him yesterday. :( Should I take him to a vet? Or does it go back to normal after a few days? He just shed a few days ago, too.

Thanks to anyone who has a suggestion.

What did you feed him? If you fed a live mouse and you think your snake may have been bitten by the mouse; then I would definitely take it to the vet.

Yeah, I always feed him live mice, but I always watch him too and the mouse never bit him. Maybe he got kicked by the mouse? Or he rubbed up against something?:(

Ummm...I don't think a mouse can kick hard enough to damage the scales covering the eye. It's more likely that the mouse somehow managed to bite him. If you are unsure, then you should take him to the vet. It's better to be safe than sorry.

I agree with Terri, get him to the vet asap. I know that is sometimes easier to say than do, but if you have a choice, call around and see which vet can take him the quickest.

I'm not sure what you're describing - is the clear eye scale dented in? If that's it, you -probably- don't have to take him to a vet. Dented in eye scales can be caused by low humidity and/or dehydration, and I would suspect that's the problem before a mouse bite or other injury. Try raising the humidity in the cage (maybe try a moist hide), soak him for a little, and see if that helps. If he just shed a few days ago, did you notice if both the eyecaps shed? If you can't remember, look at the area just around the circumference of his eye and see if there is anything that looks like unshed skin (like a white line around the eye)
