F/T Problem

My son and I have been feeding our snakes live mice so far. Yeh, I know the Pros & Cons and all the debate about feeding live. Anyways, our local pet store ran out of live feeders and we had to buy some frozen pinkies and fuzzies. So, we thought this would be a good opportunity to see if they would accept F/T. To our surprise both corn snakes took the F/T's right down, no problem. However, the next morning my son's corn snake regurg'd it's meal from the night before. :puke01:
This has never happened before. The pinky was not over sized, so to big of a meal was not the problem.

Is this common when trying to switch over from live to F/T?

My first thought would be that maybe it was not warmed up enough..if the food is not thawed out all the way and a bit warm it can cause it hard to digest.

Possible I suppose?????

I left it thaw out for about 2 hours at room temp, then placed it in a zip-lok baggy and placed it a bowl of hot tap water for about 10 minutes. I then placed it to the snake. I did the same for both snakes. The snake that got sick ate a 2-3 day old pinky and the snake that did not get sick ate a fuzzy.

Do you suppose the pinky might have been bad?

I guess it could have been. I have switched over animals on multiple occasions and didn't have regurge issues, so it must be some time of extenuating circumstance like that possibly.

Funny, you've got 3 responses over here in a few hours, and not a single one over 'there'. ;)

I see that the snake puked up a pinky. My suggestion is that you let the pinkie thaw out way too long. When I feed hatchlings f/t pinkies they go straight into hot tap water for about 5-8 mins and then to the snakes. Imo, letting them sit out for 2 hours increases the risk of things happening to it, and you don't need to do that with pinkies.

Wait the 10-14 days and feed a f/t pinky in the way that I suggested. In fact, I'd suggest not just leaving any f/t items out on the counter to thaw at room temperate. Things can go bad quick. Use warm water for all f/t prey items.

Gotta agree with Joe on this one. Leaving a F/T fuzzy or pinky thaw for 2 hours at room temp could cause it to start the decaying process. :puke01:
