Is there anything wrong with using fake plants that you can buy at like a dollar store or walmart?

also iv seen parts of the fake plants i have fall into there water dish could this cause heath problems

Spray them off in the sink and let them dry...I prefer the PLASTIC ones, not silk...let your snake crap on a silk one and it's harder to clean...but ya, if you can find plastic fake plants at Walmart or other stores, they are perfectly safe.

I use silk plants from walmart. I have never had any problems with them. It does make it a little extra work to clean but I just throw them in the sink and let them soak. But I have had them sitting in the water bowls and never had a problem.

I just bought some fake plants to take pics with/ put in tanks. What is the best thing to clean them with before I put them in?

I never cleaned my fake plants, but thats because I got them at a pet store. I guess, if you have time, just let them soak in water and rub each leaf with your fingers. Thats what I would have done if I had gotten them from Walmart or some place like that. Just a thought.

I would just rinse with warm water thoroughly, let dry, and use, whether I got it at WalMart or the pet store.

I do the same thing. I just let them soak while I am cleaning out tanks then rinse them and hang them to dry.

They are a bit of a pain to clean but they look so good that I persevere with them. The silk/plastic ones from dollar stores (or our UK equivalent) can stain and the poop marks are more difficult to get out of them.

Also be aware that the ones from dollar stores may have a wire base as they're designed for use in artificial flower displays. Just keep an eye open for sharp bare ends of metal as they get older. I've occasionally had to throw some away because of that, but as they're much cheaper than "proper" reptiles ones (which are all plastic and have no wire), I think they're better value even if they need replacing more often.

I like to wash mine in a vinegar/water mixture. Also, when I inspect the ends, as Bitsy said, and find a wire sticking out, I put a knot of hot glue over it. It dries and keeps the end safe.
