feeding 2 pinkies

the girl at the pet store said she had been feeding my snake 2 pinkies any time he would take it. is that at the same time, or by-weekly? the snake is maybe 10 inches long, and about as big around as a number 2 pencil. she said that he had been taking them an keeping them down, but i dont know if he can handle 2 at once. he did have a reputation as a good eater tho.

I'm looking at a #2 pencil and that looks very skinny but it is your word. When she says "anytime he would take it," that makes me think 2 pinkies at 1 meal. But it could have meant other stuff as well. When snakes are young, it is recommended to feed them once every 4-5 days... gradually increasing the days in between feeding with the prey size.

But since it is your snake now, you can do as you please. Start with one pinky and see how big of a lump it leaves. If it is not noticeable, try 2. Eventually move up... but you get to set the feeding times now.

Prey size should be no more than 1.5x the fattest part of the snakes girth.
If he has been feeding on 2 pinks, why downsize?

Being a hatchling, you could try this.
feed every 6 days, alternate between 1 and two pinks. For example.

First feeding on monday: 1 pink
6days later, sunday: 2 pinks
6days later, saturday: 1 pink... etc
6 days later, friday: 2 pinks

If this is too complicated then feed 2 pinks once a week. Or one every 5-6 days.

It really is your choice. I feed my yearlings once a week, and i would do the same with hatchlings. I am in no rush to have monster corns.

My ghost (looks just like the one in your avatar  ) is probably about 6 months old, give or take a little bit. He is a bit bigger in width than a number 2 pencil and I have been feeding it a small fuzzy ever 6-8 days. It seems to do fine with it but I was also wondering what would be good for it. A pinky is just to small and I dont think it would eat two at a time. But he hasn't regurged with the pinky yet. I have had no problems. Excuse me for butting in your topic question but am I giving a to big of a prey? I can't really measure my snakes fattest point so I'm just guessing. I will try to get a picture during the next feeding.

If he hasn't regurged yet, it's probably ok. Look at the lump the small fuzzy leaves. Unless it looks like the snake is about to pop, it is probably not too big.

well, he seems to be doing fine, and its been just over 24 hours since he put #2 down. ill keep an eye on him, but i think he can handle 2. thanks everyone :-D
