feeding and shedding

Okay this has happened twice I have the frozen pinkies thawing in hot water and when I go to prepare My corn snake Cisco for feeding I noticed his eyes had started to turn light blue hazy signaling he was starting the first step before shedding. I feed Cisco in a different place and each time he eats the pinkies but has not shed, so far there has been no problems but I have been wondering could this create complications in shedding? This last time I have fed him two pinkies. He should start shedding in 1 to 2 days from now today is the 25th of September.

Eating would not stop the shedding process so I don't think you have anything to worry about there. Are the eyes actually cloudy? I'm wondering if it's a trick of the light. Usually the eyes clear completely after going 'blue', then the actual shed can be a number of days after that.

You could also have missed the shed skin? If you use a loose substrate, they can get buried underneath, it catches a lot of new owners out the first time!

lol..this kinda happpened to me...I thought I missed the shed, and then 2 hrs later..I peeked in the container...and it was left on his paper towel tube...lol..

Sometimes a regurgitation is associated with being in blue. For this reason, if I have already thawed the mouse, I go ahead and feed, but if I know ahead of time that the snake is blue, I just skip that meal. It certainly doesn't hurt anything.

one of my babys just shed..this morning..but he ate while he was in blue, and then when his eyes cleared..last night, before the shed, he wouldnt eat...and then he ate this after noon...but...I don't know why he ate while in blue, and then not last night..I have herd of many people feeding their snakes b4 they shed....on a side note..lol..my yellow rat got to have a "jelly bean"..(pinkey) for a snack..lol..:grin01:
