Feeding by hand

My snake has been very tentative about eating. I'd put him in his aquarium where I feed him and drop in a pinkie, and he'd poke at it but wait an hour or more before he ate it. Finally I decided to feed him by hand. He took it so fast the first time it startled me. I held the pinkie by the tail and as soon as he saw it he sprung into action. I've fed him this way twice and it definitely makes him more interested in his food. lol... plus I find it very entertaining and it scares my wife.

do the same thing with some 8" tongs, and you'll get the same results without the possibility of a SFE (stupid feeding error)

Yeah I agree. I feed with bamboo tongs. They're cheap at petco, or somewhere like that. Getting tagged by a baby is cute. Getting tagged by an adult wont be. Plus, do you really want your snake to associate your hand with food? Handling will become a problem. I used to do this with my garter until his behavior towards me started to change. I couldn't pick him up without him going for me. :bang:
