Feeding live baby for the first time.

Have you tried feeding in a separate container? If you feed in a separate container that's very small and leave her alone overnight with the f/t pinkie, she may take it. Is this a baby you bought or hatched? If you bought it, do you know if it has ever eaten a f/t pinkie before? Was that a pinkie mouse? It looked more like a fuzzie and looked to be quite large for the snake, but hard to tell because I couldn't see much of the snake's body.

I'm glad your little corn ate for you, but I do agree that feeding hatchlings in a separate smaller container is best, if for nothing more than to prevent the accidental swallowing of substrate that could cause a blockage and eventual death (notice the pieces of aspen stuck to the pinkie's tail).

Congrats! I feed about half of my collection (mostly the pythons) live prey, and doing so in their enclosures isn't a problem... although I use newspaper substrate, so it might be different with loose substrates. Glad she took some food for you, and I figure whatever works is best for them - whether it's live or f/t prey.

I'm glad she ate for you. Hatchlings can be stubborn. I had to start several babies on live pinks. Something I hate to do, but I would hate to lose a hatchling too.

You may have to do this a couple of times, then try to switch to F/T. A good hot pink 100F-105F in a seperate container may do the trick. You may also have to try the "zombie" dance or a little tease feeding.

Good luck!

thanks guys.
I tied everything to try to feed her F/T but she was just refusing it.
She is on her fourth pinky now. I tried a F/T at first but she still showed no interest.

As long as i can get her back to F/T its not a problem but im kind of worried as to when I will be able to get her to eat F/T
Would it be hard to get her back to F/T after continuously feeding live pinky??

(Yea, I have already started feeding her in a separate container. I just thought she would be comfortable eating in her own cage for the first few feeds.)

The main thing is getting her feeding well and growing. The pinkies and the fuzzies can't hurt her, so you have at least that long to try getting her on f/t. My sense is that once she's used to eating and she's got some growth on her, switching her will be easier because she's used to eating and she will be hungry, if that makes sense. I think your odds are good that eventually she will go for f/t, but she might not. As Lolo said, whatever works. It's just a little inconvenient at times on live, because all sizes may not be available at all times in your area.
