feeding question

I was wondering I've been feeding my corns in their VIV should I take them out and feed them in another container? If so what container would be best?

An appropriately sized plastic shoe or sweater storage box, like Rubbermaid or Sterilite contaners you can find at WalMart, works great.

If they are on their own personally I would feed in the Viv on a sheet of newspaper or on a large plate. This prevents them swallowing substrate. I don't believe that a corn would mistake your hand for food unless you smell of mice. They aren't stupid.

Lots of people will advise you differently but that is what I would do.

If you have a loose substrate that could possibly be ingested with the food, I'd recommend feeding them in a separate container. If your snake is anything like mine, the mouse wouldn't stay on a plate or paper very long, though there are some that use those methods successfully.

i would not bother taking him out of his viv iv never had a problem with mine he has never tried to bite or strike at me wen its not feed time he knows when theirs food about

i would feed in a seperate container, you'll find pretty cheap rubbermaid, sterilite containers at walmart, target etc.

Since I feed live pre-stunned, I merely put my snake into the paper bag the feeder mouse comes in. Doesn't cost anything and I can just throw the bag away when done. After 4 months of using this method, as soon as my snake's head is inside the bag, he immediately strikes the mouse and starts the feeding process. Just my two cents.

I feed mine in their vivs but i seperate the ones who have cagemates to feed them.Aslong as the mouse is fully defrosted and is not wet it no substrates will stick to the mouse or rat.Mistakeing your hand for food is just a myth made up by some stupid pet shop. :grin01:

Can I jump in here and ask a related question??

I have had a snake now for 2yrs and we have always removed her into a Rubbermaid tub and used tongs to feed her.

Now we have second snake, is there any reason I can't feed her in the same tub after the first one is finished and returned to her tank? Or should I go out and buy another rubbermaid tub?

I guess what I am wondering is, in your experience does the smell of another snake eating cause the other to not eat or to eat more aggressively?? Our first rarely "strikes" generally she rubs against and then opens her mouth and we let it go and she takes it and begins swallowing. We have yet to feed the new snake, but I am told that she strikes.

They are both between the ages of 3 and 5.

I think it depends on whether they are the same sex or not. If you fed a female in the tub first and then fed a male in the tub, he might smell her and get distracted and might not eat. But if they are the same sex I don't think it would matter. Maybe you could put in a paper towel for one and then change it before you put the other snake in to feed.
