Feeding question

When using the "prey shouldn't be more than 1.5 times the snake" rule of thumb, how steadfast must one apply to this method. The pest shops in my area have a plentiful supply of what seem to large pinkies 14mm wide and the largest with of my snake is 8mm wide. Being the mathematical genius that i am, 8x1.5 = 12 which makes it 2mm over the rule. Will it be too much stress for the snake to feed on this size prey.

Tnx in advance.

I think that size difference is fine. After only a few feedings your snake will grow in girth and that won't be an issue.

If you are worried, you can always cut the pink to make it smaller. But my advice is to not worry about it.

Perhaps nip off the forelegs, too. Another suggestion I heard was to roll the pinkie around in a paper towel to sorta crush it a bit. I've never tried this because with my luck it'll pop open into a big mess. But, then it's right there in the paper towel for easy disposal. Worth a try at least.

Tnx Rich,

I know i was being a little bit cautious but i didn't wanna risk causing the snake any harm. Prevention is better than cure after all.

Every time I watch one of my babies eating a normal sized pinky, I always wonder on that first bite whether he/she can possibly swallow that thing but I am relieved every time to see that snakes are marvelous creatures and will endure a meal that looks large. Though to be fair I am a fairly new snake owner so I am not very used to my pets eating something bigger than their head.
