Feeding scedule

Hi Snakers,

I have two new baby anery's, I think about 10 weeks old. They came from the same place, out of the same viv, and are currently housed together until I get a second viv at the end of the month (roll on payday!) when Azrael will move into his new bachelor pad.
Azrael has been eating fine, but Sissaphus hasn't eaten since I got him on 30th Sept. I have read numerous posts on here about different methods to try and get him eating, so I'm not overly worried yet,but was just wondering how long to leave it between eac attempt. Is trying every four days sufficient, or should I be trying more often? I don't want to compound the problem, but I don't want him starving either!

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Blue.

Hi Rach,

Have tried that method tonight, but he still seems to be ignoring it. Have left him and it in a the small container I brought him home in darkened by covering with a dark handkerchief at the warm end of the viv and will leave him there undisturbed until I go to bed when I will remove the pinkie if it is still not eaten.

Once again Azrael was straight in there and demolished his straight away!

If Sissaphus still doesn't eat I will try again on Thursday. Do you think that is reasonable or should I try sooner, or even later.

I was told they were both taking f/t pinkies when I bought them.

i have the smae problem with my new corn and i've had lots of suggestions, im not sure exactly what you've tried, but ill pass some on to you if other meathods fail.

1. have you tried 'braining' the pinkie? (exposing skin under scalp by peeling it away)

2. tease -feeding meathod

3. using an anole to scent the pinkie, making it more desirable

4. making sure the viv is warm enough

just a few things i've also been told. also, does it seem like your snake acts almost disinterested in the food at all? that's how mine's been acting, - just curious.

good luck,
lina

I would try to seperate them into there own encloser sooner if you can, the presents of the other corn may be putting sissaphus off her food. Then try to feed her in a weeks time by just putting the pink by the hide entrance. ( wash the pink in warm water,or de-frost pink in warm water, trying not to handle it wilste doing so.).

Hi Lina,

Haven't tried them all yet, but have read loads of posts so have numerous more methods to try. so far tried giving it to him straight, teasing, and tonight warming slightly. If this fails, will try braining. Don't think its a temperature problem as Azrael is eating fine. What I am really trying to ascertain is whether giving it a four day gap between feeding attempts is too long, too short, or OK.

Like yours, yes, it is like he has absolutely no interest in it at all and totally ignores it. When I went to get him out of the feed box last time he was just curled up with the pinkie near his nose!

Cheers

Thanks Paul,

Would have got a second viv this weekend, but had my wallet lifted on Friday night with all my cards in. Now gotta wait either till my new cards arrive, or till payday, so the maximum time before I get a new home for Azrael is only gonna be another 12 days (I'll be straight to the shop if my new card arrives sooner!). Hopefully Siss will be eating before then, but if not I will try your suggestion of leaving a pinkie by her hide, on a small plate of course as I use beech chipping substrate.

Thanks for the advice,

Blue

hmm. ive usually been having a day or two between each try as opposed to four, i wish i could tell you if there were a correct amount of time or not.
doesn't it drive you just mad knowing the food is right >there< while they act like its just another rock or something? and i know mine must be hungry as it acts almost as if it's searching for food. (sigh)

well keep trying, blue and i hope you have some luck with it

Cheers Lina,

Keep me posted as to if, when and how you have any luck, and I will too.

Anyone else got any advice on this timing thing?

Cheers

Put the pink on the hide above the entrance, the plate is somthing different in the viv.
p.s a second viv could be a sandwich box with small holes in, half on a heat-mat.

Cheers Paul,

Will definitely get them separated as soon as poss, but can't even afford a new heatpad until my new flexible friend gets here (currently use a basking lamp).

Will keep you posted. Thanks for your help.

I have the same problem sometimes with my ghost.

It seems to help if the box is nice and warm on feeding day , usually a couple of degrees warmer than usual and then snip the head of the pinkie just to let a bit of juice out.

Ive left 2 pinkies in with him overnight before now on a couple of occasions , right near the entrance to his hide , when he hasnt seemed bothered about eating , and by the morning theyve usually gone :)
