Feeding Schedule?

CornyApollo

Proud Owner of Apollo
Hello,

I recently adopted Apollo from someone who didn't feed him regularly or well. I have read that if his spine is visible, he is underweight. When handling him today, I noticed his spine is visible. He is very muscular, however. He is 8 years old. I've seen that some users feed their adult snakes on a weekly schedule, and others feed their corn twice a month.

We would rather feed him once a week, but I am concerned he may become overweight in the long term. Is this possible?

Thanks!

At 8 I'd feed him a mouse every two weeks, maybe mix it up and do 10 days, then 14. I'm not a big fan of "regimented" schedules for any corn, young or old.

Ease him into just eating consistently; no need to push weight on him. :)

I also tend to adjust my feeding based on activity levels of my 7 year old as well.

If I see him out and about a lot that means he's "hunting" so he's ready to eat, sometimes she's out and about 4-5 days after feeding sometimes it 8-10. Once you get used to his habits you'll be able to tell.

Apollo always wants out, and we hold him constantly. He is used to a 2 week schedule, but becomes very aggressive. His previous owner had gone 2 months without feeding him because "she didn't feel like it" or "forgot."

The friend that I bought most of my snakes from feeds all his on a 7 day schedule, I also feed mine on a 7 day schedule. However, since mine are all under 2 years that is appropriate. If you know for sure that he is a male every 10-21 days is good as long as the meal leaves an appropriate sized lump in his belly.

I may try a 10 day feeding schedule instead of a 7 day, because he is older. I may see how feisty he gets on Monday, but he should be fine.

I feed all my snakes ever 7 days that way I can not forget to feed somebody. The only thing I very is the food size. My older adults get small to medium adult mice most of the time(when mice breeders need to be changed out they get a jumbo adult mouse).

Any hatchling or sub adult just get the proper size food item ever 7 days.

Now I did have, I one of my corns start looking fat and he did skip ever other week to trim him down some.
