Hi all

I have only had my young Cornsnake a few weeks and have only fed him once since owning him. After i brought him i fed him after 9 days as i was told to give him that to settle in and then feed him.Now i last fed him last wednesday night and i wanted to keep to feeding him every 5-7 days but i am away from my house at the moment and my mum is changing his water and stuff and i am not getting home untill tomorrow so what i was wondering is it ok to fed him tomorrow when i get home which will be 8 days or should i get my mum to feed him tonight it's just i am scared my mum will freak trying to get him ut to feed him.

Thanks for the help all.

Jamie

You could wait the extra day, he isn't going to starve to death or get ill by not eating for 8 days. They can go longer than that.

Waiting a day is fine, but I'm wondering why someone told you to give a young corn 9 days to settle in before feeding? (The standard is 3 or 4.) Man, people get lousy advice all of the time. BTW, a 5-7 day feeding schedule is perfect. Cheers on your new snake!

Thanks Kimbrya and you are right that some people give lousy advice that's why i am glad i found this place:D

Now i have got home today and just fed him 1 pinkie and i was reading on the forums the other day about when you should give them 2 pinkies and it said when the first pinkie seems to dissappear without leaving a bulge and that's what this one done so right at this minute i have got another pinkie defrosting in warm water.

My question is if he eats this ok should i keep him on 2 pinkies from now on and also should i still keep a 5-7 day feeding schedule or should i be feeding at longer intervals with 2 pinkies:)

Thanks for the help guys and girls you are awesome.

If he eats the second one, and sometimes they wont eat it if there is a delay in getting the second one, then by all means feed him two on a 5-7 day feeding schedule until he's big enough to take a fuzzy. I usually feed them two at the same time, or one right after the other, so they are still in feeding mode.
Cheers!

The 2nd one defrosted and i left it sitting there on my bed just outside his cave as i put my Snake and a cave on my bed during feeding so he has privacy.Anyway i left it there and went to wash my hands and when i come back it was gone so i lifted up the cave to see him just finished the last bit off:D

He does make me laugh though he tries for the first minute to eat it sideways on before he realises it's easier long ways:)

LOL Ssssssssss, I remember Lady G used to insist on eating them backwards for ages. Took her awhile to figure out that they went down faster face first :)

Made me laugh as this was his first time having two pinkies as he ate the first one and i put my ar down on the bed when he werent looking and he must have felt the vibration and he spun round in hunter mode as if to say is that more food :grin01:

Not sure I understand this correctly, but you leave him loose on the bed to feed? That could be his ticket to a quick escape. as well as all kinds of bacteria growth on your bedding.

I am going out before his next feed to get another container the same as what he has got now to live in but for feeding but at the moment i couldn't find one so what i done was this i handle him 10 mins before and i put a cave on the bed and let him go on the bed and he crawls into the cave and i put the pinkie outside and he takes it and goes back into his cave and then i leave him for 10 minutes watching him so he don't escape and then i put him back in his home.

Sorry if this seems bad but i thought it would be ok and i didn't want to feed him in his home because of the substrate but next time he will have a container to be fed in.

I been having great luck with a big tupperware dish. It was like $6 at target, and no substrate, dishwasher safe, don't feel bad about "wrecking" the lid by punching air holes in it, and it is a frosted finish so he has plenty of privacy, even though my little guy seems to like putting on a show for me and my friends.

I could almost charge admission to let people watch him eat, and he is only on 2 pinkies, not even big mice.

Wilkos sell clear plastic tubs in different sizes from a range called 'crystal' they're cheap and I melt holes in the top with a hot screwdriver to use them for feeding tubs. (they are sold in my local £ store too)
