Feeding Techniques

Well, I have a great black ratsnake. He's active, docile and gorgeous, about 30" long. I feed him FT mice. Usually two every week. He's a CB snake and has never had live food. I noticed that he just grabs the mouse and swallows it. I decided to see how he might handle a live mouse so instead of giving him one, I thawed a frozen mouse and dangled it by a forceps as usual. This time when he grabbed it I didnt let go and shook the mouse and he immediately wrapped it up and squeezed the crap out of it and pulling it from the forceps in the process. It was pretty cool to see he has the instinct to kill even if he never has.

FWIW, I will be staying with the FT mice in any event.

A hot mouse will get a really good reaction as well. My baby corn struck for the first time when fed a wriggly hot one.
