Feeding Upgrade Question

Hi, my little Xander is doing great. I just bought a scale to weigh him, and he weighed in at about 11-12 grams. Now, I checked the chart, and it said he doesn't upgrade to double pinks until he's at least 15 grams, but when I fed him tonight he seemed to be looking for more food, even after I put him back into his tank. Also, the lump in his belly doesn't seem as big (It's still there, just not as noticeable). Should I upgrade him early? Or just wait until he gets to 15 grams? I've never used a feeding/weight chart before, I just want him to be healthy.

Thanks,
Sarah

I would feed him one pink every 5 days until he weighs 16 grams,

feed:

double pinks from 16-23 grams, every 6-7 days
small fuzzies at 24-30 grams, every 6-7 days
regular fuzzies at 30-50 grams, every 6-7 days
hoppers at 50-90 grams, every 6-7 days
weaned at 90-170 grams, every 7 days
adult mice at 170+ grams. Adult females are fed every 7-12 days, adult males are fed every 11-14 days
This is the Munson plan and has worked very well for me with my 2010 Anery, he is a year old is on weaned and weighs 133 grams.

Well, I would suggest you go to a petstore with him. Compare the width of a fuzzy mouse to the thickest part of your snake. If it is half of that, then I would upgrade to doubles.

Personally, I would wait until your baby is at least 16 grams before moving up to double pinks. IMO, it's better to wait & reduce the chance of regurge, if they're not quite ready for that much food.

They are opportunistic feeders. Many will look for more food, even if it would be too much for them (my GSD/Lab dog is the same way...LOL).

The Munson Plan is a good guide. You don't need to follow it to a "T", but if gives you a general idea on what size prey to be feeding. I like to play it safe, & usually give them a little more time before moving them up to next level.
(For example, I wait til they're about 32 grams before moving up to fuzzies, where the guide lists 30 grams.)
