Female not eating!

Hi boys

I realise that you males get certain ideas at this time of year, but could the same thing be responsible for my 2 1/2 female corn not eating for 5 weeks? She is out a lot, apparently hunting for food. Maybe she is really hunting down a male!?!? Trust me to have a nymphomaniac snake!!!!!!!!!! When we try to feed her she sniffs and then just ignores the mouse. Should we be worried?

Cheers

Are you absolutely positive she's a she?
Is she drinking still?

She could be out hunting for a mate. Just keep offering food as often as you normally would if she were eating to schedule, and look out for other symptoms just in case there is something wrong.

My female I just bred ate only 3 times during the breeding season. Kathy Love said she has some females that act like a male and won't eat. I'd ask the same question as Tracee though...are you sure it's a female? It wouldn't be the first time a male was mis-sexed especially if it wasn't probed and was only popped. Sometimes the hemipenes won't come out and the breeder will be convinced it's a female.

mines not eating either?

I have a female corn snake also and she also doesn't want to eat. She hunt around for food too or a mate who knows. I had her probbed and he said it was a female. She hasn't eaten in 6wk now. I have tried to feed her also and she doesn't want to have anything to do with it. she is about 3 years old.
I also have another concern, she has this crusty scalely thing on her nose and I'm not sure what it is. I am concerned. This is the first time that this has ever come about and I have no idea what it is. I put it on my pic so maybe you guys can see it and hopefully help me. Any suggestions please feel free to give them, thanks so much :shrugs:

Hmmm, my female is the only one I have who IS eating--other than my hatchlings, of course.

The crusty thing on her nose sound like it could be either nose rub or mouth rot. A picture would help.

Thanks for all the replies, good to hear that Kathy had some females who's minds are on other things at this time of year MegF. I am only sure she is female because that's what I was told when we bought her. I do rate what the breeder says though, he has a vast selection of snakes and all other reptiles. Mistakes can happen though I suppose! I will take her back to him soon and let him have a look. She doesn't appear to have any other problems, she is out pretty much all the time at the moment, is it possible she has forgotten what food smells like??? :shrugs:

The most often mis-sexed is a male being listed as female. Probing will tell you for certain. Even the top breeders make mistakes with popping.

crusty nose

I figured out how to put a pic on my posts now. It's not very clear but you can kinda tell what it looks like. It is looking better now , but still there alittle. She is also not eating still and it's been almost 7 weeks. Any suggestions? :shrugs:

Actually, you posted the picture in your avatar. You can either upload from your own files after clicking on manage attachments button: pictures uploaded must be less than 150,000 pixels, or you can paste the properties of the photo in your post between these symbols
and it will put them directly on here. Looks like a scrape. Clean it well and perhaps keep her on paper towel for now until it heals. It might take 3 or 4 sheds to remove all of it.
