Female shed means...?

So all you breeders know that it aint time to start introducing yet and I am still feeding my corns heavily. I discovered last week that my female had shed while the male still hasn't. What does this post brumation shed mean?

I haven't fed her too much food yet...maybe like 8 fuzzies and thats it. Will the food she eats after mating be enough for eggs?

You can feed her adult mice from now until she goes blue for her pre-lay shed. Maybe about a month after she mates. I would also exercise her regularly until she goes blue.

Haha I have no adult mice so I just feed here large numbers of fuzzies! Thanks for the quick response!

You might need to get some adult mice. Fuzzies bones aren't completely formed and she definitely needs the extra calcium to make healthy eggs.

Ok well I have been calcium dusting the last ones if that helps. I will get those adults thought! Do you prefer a website for ordering mice?

When I have bred my snakes in the past that has always been the first sign for me that the ladies will be good to breed soon. Sunny has laid really good clutches with only one breeding to a male the day after that shed. This year I am going to wait a couple of weeks.
The post brumation shed is often taken as an early sign and although many snakes will take during this time it often takes longer to establish and can result in failure. My snakes this year were late out of brumation like your were so I am going to wait a couple weeks after that shed before I breed them to let them bulk up a little more.
Both of my girls are in a good weight to breed now but I would still prefer them to be a little bit heavier. If you are just feeding fuzzies then I would definitely wait. That small meal size is ok for the first feeding or two out of brumation but after that you should for sure be feeding adults.

LOL not time yet? My first pair hooked up after the female shed the end of January lol of course I do not brumate and she and the male were both acting ready for love :D My other pairing hooked up once about 2 weeks ago then the female decided to go blue ha ha so once she sheds they will be reintroduced, seems most start pairing up in March-April and I pretty much feed normally until they actually have a hook up then bulk up the female a little by feeding a day or two more often. My first bred female refused the other day and is blue so soon . . . Good luck!
