Finally - A Real Female!

So I finally found a real female corn locally that was sexed properly...and confirmed by myself before making the purchase...

She is an Amel het. Anery, and the by product of a Snow project...

She is 26 grams, and super healthy...
Her name is Nectarine :D

She appears to have very thin white borders, so hopefully as she matures and colors out, she will make a great mate for my Sunglow male!

Just want to say you will get all amels, not even sunglows most likely. If you are doing this for the fun of it than good luck and let us know how it goes.
If your doing this for a real project or for money i would suggest you go with some other morphs and keep these two as pets. And you're probably not really going to make any money at all.

I'm assuming you will do this for fun so i just want to say be ready for the cost of feeding 10-30 snakes you won't get rid of very fast.

I know i'm a party pooper but i just want to make sure you're not getting yourself into a messy situation :)

Ya I know man...I've been a member on here for years and read many a thread about breeding...

I'm confused why you say I may not get Sunglows though? Sunglows are nothing more than selectively bred Amels with little or no white borders....my male is Sunglow, this female appears to not have much of a white border...which I understand can change, but assuming it doesn't...then breeding a Sunglow to an Amel with very thin white saddle borders could infact produce more Sunglows...right?

Don Soderberg's Definition of Sunglow:
"Sunglow corn snakes are the products of selectively breeding Amel corns toward the goal of intensifying the red/orange coloration and eliminating the white blotch borders. Most have some white scales, but are generally two shades of the Amel color theme."

Yeah i figured you would know that but i just wanted to make sure. I'd rather tell 10 persons this and get the "i know that" response 9 times than not saying this and see 1 person go broke.

What i meant with the no sunglows part is that even if there is a little bit of white with the offspring that stays there you can't sell them as sunglow. With breeding an amel with thin border to a sunglow the chance of getting sunglow offspring is greatly reduced. Of course if the borders on your girl fade away you would get (some) sunglows but they could just as well increase.
Anyway good luck with it and let us know how it goes! :D
Sorry for the party pooping but as i said before, if i can even save 1 person from going broke it's worth it :D

Lol...that's cool man...

But on the Sunglows with white on them...there are breeders that sell snakes as Sunglow that have white on them...Check out Don Soderberg's Sunglows, the pics in his gallery have more white on them than my male does...but ya I understand the most desirable ones have zero white...so hopefully the babies would favor the father's genes :D If not, I'll atleast get a bunch of Amels, which is what sells best to "Joe Blo" around my area...

I still think amels (and their selectively bred family) are still the prettiest morphs in cornsnakes :D
Best of luck!

Sunglows and especially Sunglow motleys are some of the best looking amel type morphs out there. It's not just the lack of white but the bright colors and contrast to the two colors. I went to Don's site and could only find these two pics but neither have near the white of your pretty little amel. Could you show me where you found the pic your talking about, please, if you get the time.
Thanks
John

No, I was comparing his to my male Sunglow, not this little girl...I was saying that if her borders stay thin, and bred her to the male picture below, I "COULD" get some Sunglows...

Here he is (but in blue)...second pic is while he is shedding...

Outstanding looking boy, have you looked at the sunglow motleys? Sorry for the confusion, I must have misunderstood your post.
John

I believe what Atmox is trying to convey is that if you breed a run of the mill Amel with a Sunglow you won't automatically get Sunglows. It would be like if you bred a Normal with a Miami.. you'd most likely get all Normal colored animals, none that looked like Miamis.

If you want Sunglows why not just buy a female Sunglow? They're not that expensive, and you will ensure that you get what you want out of a breeding project. No need to make any more Amels then there already are in this industry..

I suppose you do have three years to think it over though while you're female matures. :shrugs:
