More to come later, I'm having too much fun with her to take pics

She's a beautiful snake and I'm glad that you're enjoying her, but you should really just put her in her viv & leave her alone for 2-3 days to allow her to settle in & de-stress. *Then* take all of the photos that you want...it would just be the considerate thing to do & she'll thank you for it later on by posing nicely, I'm sure. ;)

She's beautiful! Christina is right- there is nothing better for a new snake, especially a baby, than a nice week of stress-free adaptation (no handling) followed by a nice meal, then a couple three days of no handling, then start gentle handling of your new baby!

What a beautiful snake, so small! :]
You may want her to get a bit adjusted first, she's probably a bit nervous. But pretty nonetheless.

thanks for the advice! Shes resting/basking now and I'll leave her alone for a while. She ate this past wednesday (the 17th) and the breeder said shes still on x-small pinkies... which I now have plenty of. When do you advise I feed her next. From that point I was planning on feeding every 5 to 6 days.

Ahhh...:) The magical feeding question! Do a search for "Munson Plan" and you will find everything that you need to know about feeding, sizes, schedule, etc. Also, read the FAQ in the Feeding subforum and you will quickly find yourself enlightened beyond compare...;)

(Sorry, feeling a bit loopy...!)

Ech...here's the link to it: Munson Plan...too many posts have referenced it and since I want you to find it, I just did the job for you. :)

I pretty much follow it; not to a T, because each snake is different, but it's a great guideline for when you're starting out. Now, you'll need a digital scale...I got mine off of eBay for about $20 (including shipping) and it measures to within .01 grams. Or, you could just eyeball the snake's midsection as it eats (which is how I started out): the rule of thumb is that the prey should be no bigger than 1-1.5x the diameter of the snake's midsection. If you give your snake a pinky, and it seems to just "disappear" (you see no lump), after 24 hrs, then you may want to double-up on pinkies for the next feeding for a few feedings. You'll be a pro in no time. :)

I may be blind here... but what qualifies the little Amel as an aztec?
I see three or four abberent saddles but nothing beyond that..?

I concur, its not an aztec. I have heard it said that to be classed a zigzag or aztec, even if some of the saddles are zigzaggy or azteccy it has to be about 80% of the snake, otherwise its just called a partial aztec or zigzag, or just aberrant. This snake just has a couple of joined saddles, thats not aztec or zigzag, but its a beautiful snake anyway, and I can see you're so pleased with it. I hope you didn't get charged loads extra for it.

Jamin--honestly I'd not get down about her not being an aztec--it isn't a genetic thing and she looks like a cute amel. My first corn is an amel, nothing fancy, but he is a great eater and a calm and delightful pet. From a pet store in Columbus at least, 40 is the going rate. You certainly could have got her cheeper from a show, but those are harder for newbies to find!

No, I'm not down about it... she still looks as good as she did when I bought her, so I'm not worried about it. I guess I overpaid a little, but there weren't many better choices. I liked the head pattern and the diamonds down her side

most pet stores I see amels for 40-50. they are usually somewhat less for breeders but 40 isn't too bad. I went to a petstore today and they were trying to sell normals and amels for 80...now that's crazy.

She's fine! Aberrant is just as interesting as Aztec. She will be so beautiful as an adult, you won't believe it!!

:(

I still love her. I paid $40 for her and even if you guys think that was too much, shes still worth it to me

No one said you paid too much for her, she's a little beauty. There's just no point in labeling her after a morph she isn't. In the long run it will save you awkward questions, and possible frustration if you end up wanting to breed her.

She's worth every penny, not a snake in existence that doesn't.

Heck, I paid for a baby Anery A around... 90$ or so. And I am still glad for it :)
