I'm rather excited, my female produced her first litter today and it was defintly bigger than I expecting. There were 13 babis... though technically theres 12 now since I fed one to my baby snake ;p. I'll probably keep a female females from this litter for future breeding.

:)
How is it having ASFs? Are they at least semi-friendly or do they always tend to bite. I've heard they bite, and mice/rats serve me ok so I never tried keeping these. But I also hear they have bigger litters than mice.

African Soft Furred Rat. Smaller than a normal Rat but bigger than a normal mouse. Produces bigger litters more often than mice.

Pictures or it didn't happen! :D

I'm also wanting ASFs. These damn mice haven't done anything in the six months I've had them, even with two groups and everything being right. Hopefully the ASFs I've asked for will come soon, so I'll have to get some normal domestic rats to breed until I can drag myself down to Vegas to the only supplier in NV. I know the corns won't mind, they're garbage guts. Daemon might, and I know the BPs prefer rats. xD

I really like the SF's, almost no smell at all and mine are fairly friendly. They do bite but I can still touch mine, they dont come running over to attack you or anything. Amusing too, I threw in a superworm for them and they went bonkers over it. So if I'm really messing with them or have to snag a baby from the litter I just use tweezers, as momma can be very protective.

Heres some pictures!

The set up currently is a 10 gallon with aspen wood chip, a little plastic hut thing, chew proof waterbottle, ceramic dish and some cardboard towel or toilet rolls. They also get a chew block as well. I'm currently feeding them mazuri rat blocks and some rat seed mix.

I'm planning on moving them to a 20L later on so they have more room.

nice....i wanted to get some to raise for my snakes but i found out they are illegal in ky. so i will have to keep to the mice.
