So, I was at the park with my mum this Memorial Day and I came across this turtle... I have never truly found a wild reptiles before, let alone a turtle! I am thinking it is a Box or Painted Turtle, but I am not sure... I cannot find any photos of turtles native to my state that look like him with the red eyes and red feet.

What do you think it is?

Got many more but I think this'll do. :)

Then he's for sure an Eastern! Probably a male, his plastron looks slightly concave. He also has bright red eyes, but eye color isn't necessarily the only clue. My female has orange eyes.

Wow cool turtle....ive never really appreciated a turtle untill i seen this photo. I guess i havent really seen a whole lot of them before. Cool find!

Nice find. I love boxies and would keep one if it were legal in NY. Coincidently, I just had one visit my front yard yesterday. Moved him back into the woods behind the house in hopes of saving him from being run over or tormented by the local kid patrols. Don't see them alot around me, but this was about the 3rd or 4th over the last few years.

Duff, couldn't you get an ornate? I see those at shows all the time here. They are unregulated in Florida, while I am limited to having two of the Eastern including subspecies. Still, I suppose all those ornates were removed from their habitats as adults, so I'm not interested in supporting that.

Haven't looked into that, but maybe I will. Basically, anything native to NY is a protected species and can't be kept by the general public. At least that's how I read things last time I checked.
