First Corn; Thanks for all the advice and being so friendly.

Hey Sweet! :wavey: Glad to hear that your girls are enjoying your new pet. I have 5 and 6 yo sons, and they love our snakes more than our dogs, hamster, fish...name it, they love the snakes best of all! I'm sure you'll enjoy this forum. Jump in and make yourself cozy. This site has the best of the best as far as owners. From the brand new keeper to the long term breeder and all those in between!

I couldn't ID myself out of a paper bag, so this is going to be a guess, but it looks to me like you have an amel, which is aka as an albino normal. Again, this is a guess and only a guess. Pretty guy, though!

Glad to have you with us!

Thanks Bobby and LBoz, I had no idea. It was sold to me as a fancy corn, don't even know if it a boy or girl.

I will look up amelanistic. Is it albino because it doesn't have any black? And also when asked I can call him a normal? This is all so new and over whelming, but fun. The girls were so afraid last week and now they can not get enough of our orange beauty.

yeah, you can look up amelanistic cornsnakes. There's also a thread here called "show us your amels" or something like that. I'm horrible with the search feature, but I'll look for it for you...if anyone else knows just where this thread is, please post it.

Sweet, where did you get your snake? From the petstore, breeder, or what?

LOL... Lori...... This is one of the best places for Newbies.... And those that have been around a while and like you said, everyone in between... You just forgot to add that corn snakes are just a cover..... People on here have just about every rep you can think of.... And they just can't wait to help you with that as well...LOL

As long as you like it, call it what you want.....
It doesn't really matter what it is, if your not going to breed it.... A snake doesn't know what it is...LOL
Names and sex only come into it when you start to breed.....
D'oh..... Forgot about the addiction......
So this is your first..... LOL
Bets on when Sc posts her 10th... LOL

Mike! I was going to say the same thing..."unless you're going to breed, it doesn't matter."
I have a "female" king named Molly that was recently sexed by Crackerhead. Molly is now called "Hatchet." :p

p.s. I give her a month before she gets another!

You guys are great. Lol Love the humor. That is the same thing the tatoo guy said. I, well my husband got it from PetSmart for Val day. He won't even sit on the couch with me holding it. He paid for it then brought me to pick it up two days later. I am very excited and the girls are each already asking if they can have each one. Is it typical for people to get more quickly or do I seem overly eager?

LBoyz, thanks, it was nice looking at all of the other amels. There were many that looked like Valentine. Can't wait to chat some more.

Definitely "typical." My theory is that snakes excrete a type of pheremone that forces humans to collect more and more. Add that to the excitement of a child, and...well...to quote an old saying, "stick a fork in her, she's done." I predict you'll have more than a dozen snakes by the end of the year!

Wait before you buy anymore..... There are thousands of different snakes and corns are just one type....... You got the bug, but corns may not be the ones that really flicks your switch, they're just the ones you know about.......
Have a good look at what you CAN keep, corns may be the ones,(they are for millions of people) Or they may be the ones that introduce you to snakes as pets (they are for millions of people)... The herp habit takes us all differently......

LOL LOL I think my husband would not be such good sport when it comes to more snakes. If we make it 6 months with out an escape the girls may be able to convince him. He really is NOT a snake friendly person. He bought it out of shear love.

Hey Mike, I started with this one because I am allergic to all things after having children and wanted a pet that I and the girls could actually play with. I don't think I want anything that might decide to have us for dinner. Although, a little gardner wouldn't be bad.

My husband is also not a big fan of the reptiles. He's also powerless to refuse the majority. I'm betting that once his baby girls jump all over him and beg for another snake, regardless of type, your husband will bow to their demands.

How do you guys get your picture in the box on the left? McKay (9 yr old) really likes yours LBoz.
You need to go into your options to replace your current avatar. If it's too big, you might need to use a separate program to reduce the pic size.

DYK that the snake in my avatar is a full grown king??
