First Regurges now not eating (wall of text)

Good day.

Firstly, let me apologise for the wall of text.

I'm hoping someone can maybe give me some advice. I'll try and give as much historic detail of the situation as i can.

To start off with, its the first winter i'm spending in a new flat and also the first winter with my corn snake (approximatly 1 year old male).

Anyway, during a particularly cold spell, I noticed the thermometer temperature on the warm side was dropping somewhat, and I turned up the Repti200R thermostat/reostat to maintain the temps during the cold spell. When the cold spell passed, i read the thermometer and the thermometer stated that the temps were still in the correct range (was still a bit cold, turns out the snake room a bit on the colder side).

I noticed the corn was spending time on cool side, but was not too concerned since it had digested its last meal and was in that period between feedings. A few days passed and as i was removing "cage furniture" for disinfecting i noticed that the warm side felt warmer than usual, checked thermometer and it read temps in the correct range (+-85F), i was not sure of the temps and took an alchohol kitchen thermometer and placed it above the UTH, to my horror the temps read 35c (95f).

I immediately replaced faulty thermometer, and brought the temps back down, waited a few more days and fed. Had a regurge within 24 hours. Followed regurge procedure, fed, regurge. Started to get worried, followed regurge procedure, fed and regurge. All within 24 hour period.

Booked to take corn to a vet (on a saturday) and before i took to vet, i tried one more feeding (on a tuesday), fed, kept it down etc. Felt relieved and nearly cancelled vet appointment, but thought would be best to take to vet to have it checked out.

Took to vet with my feeding booklet, he looked at it and saw that regurges were within 24 hours (he cited "digestion failure"). Anyway, he then ran his thumb down the corns belly a few times and diagnosed it with a bowel infection, most likely brought on by the combination of my own stupidity, my own words, not the vets,(turning the temps up) and the faulty thermometer (that told me the temps were within range).

I was told to give once daily doses for 10 days of diluted flagyl. Not sure what the dilution ratio was, but volume of diluted dosage was 1cc. I was a bit concerned as to how the vet handled the corn, in my opinion he seemed to be a bit rough with corn.

Anyway, finished the daily dosing and attempted to feed, no interest in food. I have been trying now for about the last month to get him to eat, but no luck. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I have tried braining the f/t's, cutting them, placing him in a smaller container with f/t, but nothing seems to work. I also leave f/t in the viv overnight. (I feed in viv as i use paper toweling for substrate)

Thank you in advance

Try offering him a pink with some slits cut in the back.

Also, I would put him in a small feed container inside his viv and leave him completely undisturbed overnight. No looking in to see how he is doing. Just leave him and the pink alone.

did i understand you right you offered him food just after he had regurged??

you have to wait at least for a week before given him food next time because the stomach acid is very nasty and he has to regenerate for a while!

maybe the prey was to big for him but takin him ti a vet is never bad!
Offe much water to him and leave him undisturbed!

sorry my fault i´m not really awake yet lol!

Try to offer him a small rat or what about chicken? some of the guys i know offfer small pieces of chicken heart or somethin like this maybe this will help for the moment!

See now how could understand that it looks like i said i gave food directly after regurge. Each time there was a regurge, i followed the regurge protocol.

I was also thinking of maybe trying a rat pup, bit hesitant to use chicken.

The prey item was not too big, i've always been feeding smaller than he can handle.

I think I would first of all not try at an interval shorter than five days. I think I'd try a rat pup, really really hot, and put that and the snake in a paper bag, with the top folded and then put the bag in the viv overnight.

Thanks Nanci

Just got to find a rat pup now, food is hard to find down here in Cape Town. Especially at this time of year.

Paper bags i can find. :)

Been attempting to feed twice a week.

Have you tried mouse pinks, or peach fuzzies? Something small and hairless might work, if he isn't accustomed to eating those. Another thing to try is take away his water dish for 24 hours prior to feeding, then feed him a really wet prey item. (Then give the water bowl back whether he eats or not). Have you tried live?

Yes, I've tried mouse pinks as well as fuzzies. With and without cuts. His just not interested in food at all.
Haven't tried live yet.
Thanks for the water dish idea too.
