I am sure this has been discussed many, many times, but I had neither the will not the want to to research this question!!!! :)

We got my daughter a beautiful corn several weeks ago....he's doing wonderful...I noticed today that he is beginning to go through his first shed....what do we need to do, if anything?

As a novice, please tell me what we should do.

Love the forum, it has been very informative and helpful!!

Well, if you keep your corn in proper humidity and temperature there is nothing you have to do.
You can put box with damp moss/paper towels with hole cut in lid to allow snake use it if needed or just mist tank.
I prefer "wet box" 'cause I have better control over humidity as too much is bad.

We lightly mist the tank in the morning and in the evening.....the humidity thing is what I worry about most. Other than that, that is all that we do.

Generally, how long does it take him to shed? Does he eat or want to eat during the shed? Should you handle him?

Sorry for all of the questions.....just trying to learn.

1. They go cloudy looking (in blue) for 2-5 days (ish). Then they go back to normal for 2-5 days (ish). They the skin will come off. Overall, whole process should take in the region of a week.
2. Maybe. Some do, some don't. Give it a try and see if he takes. If you try and he doesn't it's probably not worth trying in future. Won't do any hard to wait until he's done.
3. Give it a try and see how he is. Again, they're all different. Some don't bother in the slightest, some prefer to be left alone to shed. He'll let you know either way.

:)

Do you always mist the viv each day? You really don't need to except at times when they are preparing to shed. Corns don't require high humidity, and in fact do better without it. As stated before, the exception is at shed time.

Yes, we have been misting everyday, but we've only been doing that for about a week now. Once he is done shedding we will stop misting daily.

Like I said, new to all of this and I'm just not sure what is right and wrong!!!

Thanks for all of the help!!!!

Sounds good. A quick run thru the FAQ's section can give you a good general idea of what you need, and I recommend purchasing Kathy Love's The Complete Cornsnake Manual. Excellent reference, and you can order it off her website.
