First shed

Well I just went thru my first shed and I missed it.....:(

Took it all off in 2 sections. I was under the impression it would come off in many different parts.

I hope next time I will see him wiggle out of it.

He is very active now compared to last week I guess he must feel better with a new coat on.

His colors are definitely way nicer now.

Congrats on a pretty successful first shed! Ideally it should come off in one piece, but sometimes they break it while slithering out. Make sure you check the tip of his tail to make sure he got it all off.

I'll tell you, I have many snakes, and have been doing this for many years...and I've only ever witnessed a few sheds. Good luck catching him at just the right time. :)

A successful shed is much better than a horrible one you have to help the corn with. Trust me, I know. XD

But congrats on the clean shed. Since it came off in two pieces, make sure the tail tip and eye caps came off.

Tail is off ok but how do I tell if eye caps are off? In fact I did notice one of the eyes are still pretty blue but then again I read somewhere that it could be normal if he is blind from one eye????

HELP!!!!

You could always check the shed skin to see if the eye caps are there...

Congrats! We were able to witness our snake's first shed; it was neat. He kept rubbing his head into this rock I had in the corner of his tank; after about 5-6 attempts, he was able to slowly slither out. My 8 year old thought it was cool and she called her grandparents to give them a play by play of the events as they were happening. I filmed a little bit of it; my biggest surprise was actually how fast he was out; once he got it started, maybe 5 min. total before he was totally out; and the shed was in one piece.

If you don't see any eye caps, don't worry. My corn missed one with her first shed with be, and while she was in blue (or just went out of blue), I noticed the cap hanging off her eye and it peeled right off. Eye caps usually come off on their own during the next shed or few, but it's the tail tips you HAVE to worry about. Those will cut circulation off in that area of the tail, and it will die and fall off.

I saw a blizzard in a pet store with a stub tail. The guy was still charging over a hundred dollars for her.

The stub tail wouldnt really be an issue as far as I know unless its way on up and then could possibly cause reproductive issues. My snow just shed twice within 2 weeks because he shed and the entire head portion was still stuck on. After so many tries of soaking him and everything else, I finally took him to the vet to see about it.... 70 bucks later im out with some ointment and a day later I caught him in the middle of slithering out of a full one piece shed........ figures:bang:
