First Time Feeding New Amel

I fed Auryn for the first time last night, and it went spectacularly! :D

I was all set to have to spend 2-3 minutes or more coaxing her to grab the pinky, but within--literally--5 seconds she caught on and...caught on. All continued smoothly from there.

Latched on, but she kept trying to back away with it, so I spread a hand towel over half the container, and then she relaxed and continued.

If you look just to the left of her head, you can make out the last glimpse of little pinky feets and tail.

All in! And down it goes.

All done!

Once she was finished I put her favorite hide into the container with her, and when she recognized it she crawled right in. (Better lighting here in a different room and with the towel off.)

And finally back in her tank (peeking out of the hide).

One thing I found, though, is that I definitely need a better scale! The one I have is a dinky little spring-op, which just can't cut it when it comes to itty-bitty snakes or their food. But I should be able to take care of that this week.

What an exhilarating relief though! My first snake feeding experience went off without a hitch. :)

congrats on it going well :) she is very pretty :) just so you know.. most good eaters dont have to be coaxed, just drop it in and they do what they do best :)

Well, I'm definitely a "hope for the best, but prepare for the worst" kind of person. I spent a fair amount of time surfing around YouTube looking at corn snake videos--hoping to see more varied things than just eating, but those are by far the majority --and many that I saw of young snakes had them needing to be coaxed for a couple of minutes, so I knew that that was a possibility. But I was staying optimistic about how Auryn would do.

I just hope now that she'll continue to be such a good eater. :)

Well done Meg! lol

She's a GORGEOUS little amel! It must be said!

My little ones all eat in front of me now! lol

PS: I love how you can see her little head peeking over the dish in the last pic! lol You just see two shining eyes! lol

Thanks Meg. ;)

I'm really looking forward to seeing her grow larger, and her colors firm up a bit. Always very exciting!

I'm hoping that as I continue to handle her, she'll get more used to me and won't mind me hovering over her feeding container.

I've got a chair set up off the corner of her cage (which is on my window seat), so it gives me a decent view of the opening of that hide--that shot was too cute to pass up!
