First Time Feeding Snake: Help

nycflip22

I want another Corn snake
Hey, sorry I'm new at this.

Where can i read up on the proper procedures of feeding my cornsnake. I have my pinkies in the freezer.

Proper procedures before and after I feed it...Like, would I have to place the snake in a separate bin when I feed it? How long do i have to wait for the pinky to defrost? If I use a separate bin, when could I put the snake back?

Thank You

When i was feeding my snake f/t fuzzies, i would just put one in a zip lock back, and thaw it under running hot water, it takes about 5 minutes if the water is hot. just feel it on the outside of the bag and u will be able to tell if it is thawed or not. Then it depends what kind of substrate you have, i have aspen, so i take my snake out and put it into a rubermaid container. You may want to grab thoes long wooded tweezers they sell at pet stores to dangle the pinky to get your snakes attention. Your snake will eat it and once it has digested it, your snake will begin to move around and then it will be time to put him back into his tank.

I just feed my snake, and it's back in it's viv. How come it keeps rubbing the side of its head against stuff?

I Dunno but when ever i put my snake back in his cage after feeding he will cruise the whole tank, get a drink, and then relax under his hide, i am sure he is just sniffing things out.

lol. kk, it just looked weird. It was rubbing its head around the place where I fed it, kinda like its wiping its mouth since that pinky was a lil sloppy.
It was moving sorta..robotically..it just settled down in where my UTH is so that's good.
I just wanted to make sure Caesar was ok :)

Yea i am sure he will be great, Killah hangs out under his warm hide and lets his belly digest for about 2 days so i am sure ceasar will do the same

kk thanks.

When will it poop? How often do they poop, and if they do i wouldn't be able to miss it right? I don't want it to poop and not know about it.

It will take about 2-3 for him to poop, and it depends on ur substrate but it should be visible. Killah sometimes will poop i will clean it, and in a day he will poop a lil more. He usually poops twice to clear eveything out, but the last 3 days of a 7 day week should be clear.

When am I allowed to handle/play with him again since I fed him yesterday?

The answers to all of these basic questions can be found in the FAQs stickied to the tops of the Husbandry and Health sub-forums. Do not handle for at least 48 hours after feeding.
