Raven shedded her skin today......

i just got home and i want to check on her because its been sooooo cold "chicago" and our apartment building the heat wasnt working right.. but now it's fix but anyways, i went to got check on her and i turned on her light, i notice something on her back and it was lose. so i took off the top of her viv and notice a line trail of white stuff. i'm thinking oh great now whats wrong. but as i looked closer it was her skin. she still has some pieces on her. so right now i'm leaveing her alone and then sunday i'll make sure all her skin is off.

I"M SO HAPPY...:D :crazy02:

Thats so cool!

My sons snake shed for the first time too the other day. It was so funny, My hubby and I went to go cheak on the snake, It was night time and dark in the room, well I saw something in the viv and tought it was a cotten ball. I was just about to yell at my son and tell him that I was taking his snake out of his room. Then my hubby told me it was his skin LOL.

hello! I've been reading posts here for a lil bit learning everything I can. I saw this post and had to leave a note about my babies first shed. I got her Dec 21st from Terri. She is a yearling, normal het snow, and motley girl. All of the firsts for me were sort of stressful.

The first feeding "Fuzzy Time" was very interesting. I would peek at her ever once in a while while cleaning the viv and kept asking my husband how she was doing. Now, it's not a big deal and she always eats her thawed fuzzies. I'm glad she's a good eater and she really makes it easy for me.

I knew the shed was going to happen at some point and thought I would see the signs I read about here. The only thing I noticed was she looked a lil bit dull. Her eyes were bright to me so I didn't think it was going to happen right away. Now that I've seen her just after the shed I think I'll know what to look for next time. Well, I got her out to play and noticed she was acting a bit funny. She would push her lil face against my hand and I thought maybe she wanted me to move my hand out of her way. She made her way to a large pocket on my PJ's and went right on in. She was in there for a lil while and I heard a sound that i couldn't place. I peeked into the pocket and she peeked her lil head out at me and I noticed she had started shedding her skin. I really didn't know what to think of it. I never ever thought she would shed on me! I thought it would be something she would want to do when alone. When I pulled her out of my pocket I sat her down and she crawled right on out of her skin. When her head peeked out of my pocket I almost thought I saw some expression from her as she looked up at me. It was very very neat. :)

Welcome to the forum, Enchant!!!

I know you've been hanging about for a while now, but it's good to actually "see" you here.

P.S. - I'm glad things are still going well with you and Jewel!

Lady Nitro-

Sounds as if your enclosure is too dry.

I would find a small plastic container (i.e a ice-cream tub) and put some damp kitchen paper or sphagnum moss on it, make a hole in the top big enough for the snake to get in. this is a called a moist hide or shelter. Put this in the warm side of the enclosure, it will help your snake to shed the rest of it's skin.

Make sure that the skin is off of it's eyes and from the end of it's tale.

thanks for the advice..
your right it was a little dried in there so what i did is
i actually mist her viv last night and the rest of her skin come off fine.. i actually got to see hher shed the rest of it.....
when i got her she had a black spot on her tail and now its gone it came off with her skin. it was kind of hard ( the little balck part)

dose anyone know what that could of been.

what was werid is a few days ago i notice her eyes where cloudy and her colors were paller, the next day she was normally (color came back) i thought it was going to happen but wasnt sure..... but yesterday morning i had her out and she was playing.. i put her back of course she wanted to stay out. then i come home and she shedded. i had no clue she was going to do that.

i will check to make sure she did for sure got all her skin off.
dont want to have any more problems...;)

oh forgot...when they shed do their markings on their head change. i dont know if she always had it or if i never notice...
but now she has these two dots that sit right above her eyes on top of her head...i'll "try" to take a pic of it but not untill tomorrow.

The markings themselves don't change. They appear different sometimes as they color up. Markings seem more noticeable right after they shed :D

I have one that has "eyes" on top of her head. You can see a pic of her as a new hatchling here Interesting Head Pattern

The black stuff that was on the tip of the tail may have been the tip of her tail. If she had skin retained from a previous shed, it would have cut off the circulation (much like putting a rubber band around something). It is important to always make sure the skin sheds off the eyes and the tip of the tail.

oh thats cool....

in that case then this is her second shed...
but the first one with me....

i checked her over and she's all good....
no skin left behind....

i went through her viv and picked out all the skin
looking for the head part and every thing looks good...

How old is she? She may have shed more times than you know. They shed their first time at around 1 week old. If they are fed regularly, it is not uncommon for a hatchling to shed once a month after that. As they get bigger, they shed less often.

i really dont know how old she is..
i do know she 03... maybe sept or oct...
guessing from her size...i know she was feed once a week cause i asked the guy who sold her to me. now what they were feeding her i have know idea.. she's about 13inches right now... again a guess.. i havent measure her yet. when i do i'll update this post.. she's resting right now....
