Flex watt and a new rack system

My question is regarding the wiring of my first rack system. We built it larger then what we need at this time and I'm wondering if I should hold off on adding the flexwatt to the shelves I dont need till next Spring?!?

We are building it out of Birch and I'm not very familiar with Flex watt..so this is our first use of it ..so I dont want to heat all 8 shelves when I only need two now.

Will the flex watt burn if there isnt anything there to absorb the heat? Sorry for all the questions but I dont want to ruin the tubs I've been patiently doing holes in or the wood. Since we did a more pricey set up to last longer and look a bit more pleasing to the eye.

Thank you in advance for any and all help!!

the flex watt will let the extra heat go in to the air. If your controlling it properly it will never get very hot, you may not even feel heat at all on ones exposed to the air. But you can always wire it up and just leave one wire disconnected to keep all the ones you don't need shut off. I wired mine all individually to dimmer switches because it sits next to a basement wall where the outside temperature affects the top bins much more than the bottom and individual settings are needed. You can see the way I wired it in the link in my signature.

No fair not sharing photos of your pleasing to the eye set-up!

Thanks so much for the information..Well I'd post pics but it is in heap at the moment ..LOL

All the wood was cut last night and still being sanded..Hoping to get it all put together tonite..But I'm still working on the holes of those darn tubes..Maybe by :santa: I'll be done..But I will post some pics once it is more together :)

Antsterr..that is a really nice rack system..That is next summers project..I currently only have three adult corns and four babies(still need to pick two up from Drizz). So we are building this one just for babies..We had thought about doing a combo rack but finding the right bins..I agree is the worst. I think I hit ever retail outlet and even got to the point i didnt care about the price just wanted a large and small one that was the same height and with no gaps at handles.

We just couldnt find them so ended up making a tad larger baby rack that will hold a baby or two and a sub-adult for now in each container.

All my adults are in regular tanks but slowly would like to move to all racks..Less space and easier to have them all in one room.

Thanks again and pics will follow!
