Floppy discs problems WTH!!

Hey guys,
I Have a computer at home with tons of pics on there, I was browsing through and found baby pics of some of my reverse okeetees and some others like blue beauties and such. I wanted to post them here So for 3 days in a row now, I grab floppy discs that I have put them on the floppies bring them to my brothers house and try to put them online and everytime it cant read them and says Floppy is not formated, would you like to format now? All info will be erased. WHAT THE HELL is going on All the discs Ive used have been previously used with no problems. So then I take those discs home to try on the original comp, and it says the same thing.

So then I try again again and again, no success.
What am I doing wrong?

They typically havea half hour long ride in my backpack in 100-112 degree beautiful arizona weather (at least its a dry heat!). Is that the problem?

I place them in a pouch so the metal part on the bottom doesnt contact anything, maybe it moves around in there?

Any input on these old 8-track like pos's would be appreciated :)

your problem is your using floppys.....
In a way, this is true. How old are the floppies? I can only guess pretty old since almost nobody uses them anymore. Floppies do not have a very long shelf life. The heat could have an affect on them since they should not be stored near heat but I do not think this is the case since it was only a half hour.

Were you able to read the disk at your house when you copied the pictures on to them?

It sounds like your brother's computer to me. When I was going to college, we had to keep a floppy disk with us to store all of our documents, lab results, papers, etc on. There was one certain computer in the lab in our Police building that could not read anyone's floppy for whatever reason. It asked the same formating question. They eventually just jerked the floppy drive out as quite a few dumb kids had lost 2-3 years worth of information on their disks.

But seriously, floppies are so out of date. I only use them sparingly for documents for work or stuff to take to a Kinko's to be printed. With the size of my pictures, I couldn't get but a handful or two of pictures on a floppy before I'd need another, and then another. I think I've got like 10 + gigs of pictures stored on my secondary harddrive. Plus with the storage space on CD's and their infinite shelf life, they make great storage for pictures.

CD-RW's aren't that pricey these days and you'd be a lot better off. Are you limited by connection speed at your home, is that why you can't upload to the internet from your house and have to go to your brother's?

I was having the same problem awhile back when I didn't want to waste a disc for one small program for a friend, and never did figure it out. The headache that was sure to come investigating it wasn't worth it, and just asked for a list so I could fill the disc... I would just get one of those little zips that plug into the USB for transporting back and forth, if it's just for you, and you can reuse them over and over...

I would say that if its telling you that the disk isnt formatted, that the disk is bad.. you need to get new floppy disks or some other form of "memory" to transfer the pics. do you not have internet to email the pics? Another idea, is a flash stick.. it inserts into your usb port and you save everything to it and its portable... Good Luck!!

My computer does this with certain floppies. It seems to be one particular make of floppies I use - I put them in one computer and they work fine, I try to move the files to my current computer and I get this error. Yet the computer reads all other floppies fine.
So it could be the make of floppies you're using.

Wow, I didn't know anyone still uses floppy disks. Perhaps it is time to upgrade to one of those turntables... you know, the one with a bird standing on a perch where you put his beak on the spinning stone cylinder. :grin01:

I have burned CDs from way back in the olden days, starting in 1997. Some of them are no longer readable... some of them went bad within 5-6 years. (They were being stored in a CD wallet thingy, not exposed to UV or excessive temps or moisture, and are not scratched.)

Have you tried Disc Dr? I'm debating on whether or not getting one would be a good investment.... I'm up to 100G used on my external, and want to start archiving, but if discs wear out even without heavy use....
